"some wonderfully punchy sing-a-long indie rock n roll"
Jim Gellatly, XFM SCOTLAND
''Laddish, Ballsy, Brilliance. Music that makes you wanna get pissed with your mates down the local boozer and dance your Union Jack pants off!''
Claire Adams, Head of Vestal UK, www.vestalwatch.com
"Not our normal bag but after seeing them live I think they could go big. The current list of indie chart toppers better beware! "
Chris Hornby, Artrocker Magazine
''Riot Lights are an honest to goodness indie quartet with more energy and punch than Amir Khan and a brash charm which is sure to wink and smirk at (and then possible bottle) the Pigeon Detectives as they top the charts and take over the music sky with wings built on consumer friendly contagious pop-rock. As I get in my car to leave, a bottle chasing me through the air, narrowly missing my windscreen, I have (after initial feelings of relief that I made it out alive) that post gig depression you get when you leave a band, so full of promise, with the knowledge that next time you see them, they may well be dots on a packed out stadium horizon.''
Jo-Rosie Haffenden, Rock feedback
Riot lights are a British band based in Brighton, consisting of Ben Williams - Vocals, Chris Mitchell - Guitar/Backing Vocals, Jimmy Bradley - Bass/Backing Vocals and Simon Goldring - Drums. They are four ambitious young lads from the South coast, currently leaving audiences begging for more with their energetic indie punk antics. With industry whispers, fans vying for attention and the increasingly packed out shows, now is the time to catch these cheeky upstarts before they play even larger venues next year.
It all started from a shit hole flat in the middle of Brighton, born out of boredom of the same routines, shitty jobs, knocking about the same old streets, doing the same old things, each originally hailing from Towns and Cities all around the British Isles, these four lads met from going to the same pubs/venues, talking music, football, trainers and general good clobber. Chris being the main songwriter in the band with Ben on lyrics set about in Feb 2007 writing about working class lifestyles from which they all hail in the same vain as The Streets, The Jam, The Smiths, The Clash, The Libertines, George Orwell, Shane Meadows, Nick Love etc.
In April 2007 then they met former drummer Steve Pottinger from going to college and knowing of his drumming abilities, when asked to join Steve was more then happy to help. On a purely coincidental night out to discuss things with the newly found drummer, they wondered into an open mic night at the Sky Bar, where a certain Jimmy Bradley was doing sound for the random acoustic acts that graced that night, noticing that Jimmy had a decent haircut they then approached him to see if there was any chance he knew how to play the bass, luckily enough for them he was more then able and jumped at the chance to join the band. All these four lads lacked then was a name, which they come up with after going to unnamed football match which ended in a riot in the car park of the ground in which police in riot vans had to intervene, from that day forward they decided to name the band Riot Lights.
After many rehearsals at the Brighton Electric, they were then booked onto their first time in September, playing places such as London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, amongst others.
In October after a gig with The Harrison’s at The Barfly in Brighton it was then decided that Steve and Riot Lights part ways due to over commitments and musical differences. With a big gap left to fill Riot Lights called on a well known Brighton drummer and good mate, originally from Stenning, Simon Goldring to fill the void left by Steve, now with Simon on drums Riot Lights can fully set about smashing the music scene with their poppy hooks, laddish ways and with their songs that have a romanticism to match any of their contempories which you’ll be singing from the terraces before you know it.
Alright lads. Just letting you know that the three new demos that we recorded this weekend are uploaded onto the page. Let us know what you think of them. Hope all is well. Looking forward to your Manc gig. Speak soon x x x
