HA! Flapjack go upstairs, find hippies in kitchen. Long hair, beard plus hippie girl in half shirt. Nice stack! I say, "What kind of shit?" Hippie girl say, "Flapjack, love make world go round. " I say, "Vodka do same thing but cheaper!" HA!
Ah, gouache. I'm glad I'm not the only one in love with its flatness and pigment intensity. Blazing chroma! Kinda like the mineral pigments of the medieval manuscripts - there's just a visceral power oil and acrylic don't have. Gouache IS eye-blazing purity!
(Do you use Shiva or Winsor & Newton? I never got to try Shiva, but I hear it's the best. I have a book from the '40s about gouache painting, and many of the artists at the time loved Shiva.)
(I'm currently working digitally, but I'll probably return to my first love at some time or another.)
Beautiful art! Powerful color sense and gorgeous draftsmanship. Take care!
Mustafio is in the habit of taking an afternoon nap in the living room, and it is an unwritten rule that I am not to be disturbed during rest periods. On one occasion, however, the gardener burst into my home and made accusations of financial arrangements allegedly never having been realized. Without opening my eyes, I reached for the phone and called my intern. "Wake me up at once, my dreams are tormenting me." The gardener could not help but be amused by my joke, and the crisis over paying the gardener was immediately resolved.
