And out of nowhere comes Ripley Road. This hard driving country group from South Alabama literally appeared on the local scene out of thin air. The group as a whole had never stepped foot on stage together, but in July 2008 here they are, standing on the stage in front of 200 plus as the lead vocalist, Charles Michael Scott, belts out “how ya’ll doin we’re Ripley Road, ya’ll ready for Colt Ford”. Fast forward to September 2009 and the band has already gained local sponsorships and Officially Sponsored by Jagermeister!
Ripley Road is the result of a meeting that took place in the fall of 2007, between Charles Michael Scott lead vocalist and Chade Dickey, the drummer for the group. Chade, who grew up in a family of musicians and who spent a lot of his younger years traveling with his father, had been playing the local scene for a few years. Charles Michael Scott had just arrived at Fort Rucker, AL and was looking to get a band together to fill his off time as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. Over a smoking BBQ grill with a huge smoked butt filling the cold fall evening, it didn’t take long to figure out that these guys had a mission, to appear on the scene with guns blazing to take over the local towns.
Though it was a rough start gathering musicians who really wanted to play, the group eventually gathered song lists and dug in for six months, as if secretly planning a strategic military mission. Ripley Road first debuted in Enterprise, AL as the opening and closing act for Colt Ford.
“No one except friends and family really knew who Ripley Road was, and to be honest neither did we until we hit the stage, when the music started and I saw the crowd I knew this is what I want to do for the rest of my life” Charles Scott
The group has done more than accomplish its original intent. Since taking the stage for the first time, Ripley Road has performed over 120 shows not including special events, festivals and other appearances, they have packed clubs, gained local sponsors and most recently a country group Officially Sponsored by Jagermeister.
The group is a melting pot of talent. Guitarists Sonny Wolf and Billy (Bilzy) Sizemore, can croon the strings that will make any guitarist green with envy, and then turn around and hammer out harmonics riffs and string bending distortion fit for a full blown head banging. Bassist James Adkins, barely noticeable to the eyes looking toward the stage, let’s his presence be known with both harmony vocals and awesome solo’s as well as the bottom ends that are famous for the Ripley Road sound. Chade Dickey could be described as a human sound click machine. His percussion timing and creativity is among the best in the industry, you will also hear his vocals throughout the harmony of the group. Charles Michael Scott wraps up the Ripley Road lineup as lead vocalist. Drawing energy from the crowd you will be lucky to snap a photo of him not in motion during the entire duration of a show, that is until the music slows and the his voice accents perfectly with the strings and percussion of what makes Ripley Road who they are.
Enjoy the Ride,
Ripley Road.
