It is the politics of regaining control over the self, of taking back from those who wish to control you. It is the politics of rejecting the "values" that have been instilled in us, that have been etched in our hearts-greed, apathy and selfishness. In a system dependant on the intoxication and ignorance of the masses, the abstention from the same can be nothing other than a rebellion against the system. Our minds drowned and chained by unjust and empty traditions, straight edge is a rejection of the assumption by our culture that we will partake in their poisons, another fuel to their machine, another blind consumer for their industry.
More than abstention from intoxicants. More than music. More than words. More than friendship.
Ideals. Meaning. Beliefs.
Straight edge for its own sake is nothing, it is worthless.
If not out of selflessness, it is meaningless.
This is the straight edge i believe in.
D.I.Y. Hardcore - Remember that?
Its about having something to say, having passion, conviction and heart.
Its not about bullshit like fashion or popularity.
RISEN is a veganstraight edge band: all members of the band live a vegan/ drug-free lifestyle for a variety of reasons.
We are a band that has things to say and that is interested in promoting a hardcore scene that gives a shit about the state of the world today, from issues of veganism/ animal rights to political and gender issues, to living a drug-free lifestyle. We believe there is plenty of room in hardcore for critical thinking, progression and fun all at the same time.
We have had two releases, one CD e.p. Left With the Ashes, released by Catalyst Records about two years ago, and a split 7" e.p. (with Breaking Away) titled Orwell Was an Optimist, which was a limited vinyl release (and is pretty much sold out now), also released by Catalyst.
We released Playing the Victim, a new demo, in the Summer of 2007, followed by a short West Coast tour (with out friends Gather, 7 Generations, and Time For Change). The four song demo is available now ( includes three new songs and a re-worked version of Sacrifice).
