I am a writer. Plain and simple. I started writing on a regular basis when I was in prison and had the honor to meet and work with Jimmy Santiago Baca.
Jimmy is a renowned poet, author, prison reformist and environmentalist. His work centers around American Southwest barrios, addiction, injustice, education, community, love and beyond. Visit his website at www.jimmysantiagobaca.com and see for yourself.
Jimmy is my mentor and dear friend. I am currently working on my first manuscript entitled, "Fighting the Tide", a collection of short stories, prose and poetry, and I look forward to being published. When I write, I am free.
Music
My favorite band is Nickleback, but I'm pretty diversified in my taste for tunes...I like old school jams as well as new age rock, alternative and top-of-the-charts songs too. And when it comes to contemporary country...well Shania Twain reminds me of a time in my life I will never forget!
Movies
Action/Adventure is the for sure movie ticket for me! I also like suspense thrillers and comedies. My favorite actors are Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Kiefer Sutherland, Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones and I couldn't leave out Eddie Murphy and Jim Carrey!
Television
I'm a big American Idol fan!!! Gotta have it!
The show that gets me through my American Idol withdrawals!
Books
I love to read...a hobby I took up over the last few years... I love James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Patricia Cornwell...any good murder mystery, suspense thriller will do! Of course I also read poetry...I love prose, poetry and authors like Jimmy Santiago Baca!
Heroes
My father is my hero. He is 89 years old and still wakes up each day with a smile! My Dad will live the rest of his life being the best he can be. He loves me unconditionally and has always been there for me no matter what kind of trouble I managed to get into. Even when I have gone against his suggestions, he has supported my decisions. My dad was a White House Aide for Truman and Roosevelt. He was a retired Lt. Col. in the Air Force when I was just 3 years old. He designed a nuclear propulsion method for the mission to Mars for NASA in 1964...he was a nuclear aeronautic engineer before he served 20+ years with the government at the Dept. of Transportation! I could only hope to achieve a "blink" of an eye of his life. I love you Dad.
About me: About me:
For all of you who thought you knew me,
well...I've come a long way!
For those of you who don't know
what kind of tide I've been fighting,
then let me hit you with the wave!
I graduated from Colorado State University in 1998
with a degree in Marketing; had the world at my feet,
then, I started using cocaine. It was a 7 year ride
that drove me to madness. In 2005, I went to prison
in New Mexico for Conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery. Yeah, you read it right. From PTA mom to bank robber
...all to get high.
I lost a good friend to 4 bullets that day...
SWAT ain't no joke, and I thank God to be alive...
and clean today. Almost 5 years without drugs,
without the fears and hopelessness,
and I've got the world at my feet once again!
I have found forgiveness
in the hearts of my children,
my true friends and my family...
what more could a woman ask for?

Just wanted to say thanks for being a real friend of mine on Myspace. If you have any poetry or know a really great poet that you like - let me know - i'm always looking for new poetry & poets to feature on 10K Poets.
Early morning the fog drifting as if looking for a place to hide, as a new day comes to life. A good time to think of the things to come. All things become more clear as time passes .
Whirling Dervish (wurl-ing dur-vish)n. 1. A mystical dancer who stands between the material and cosmic worlds. His dance is part of a sacred ceremony in which the dervish rotates in a precise rhythm. He represents the earth revolving on its axis while orbiting the sun. The purpose of the ritual whirling is for the dervish to empty himself of all distracting thoughts, placing him in trance; released from his body he conquers dizziness.

MANY OF HER PIECES ARE TOO LONG FOR A COMMENT SO HERE'S ANOTHER EXCERPT FROM "The Diary of a Jaded Girl"...
“A Tombstone in My Heart”
A tombstone in my heart just rattles around everyday. The rough corners digging and cutting me inside. Causing my soul a way to bleed for my own death to come upon me. Beating me with each thrash of my heart over what I’ve lost for life. My reason to live now is to cry, just cry. (I guess that is how you know that it was true love.) Living only to cry every night for that lost love. And defending every tear with your life. For that right to cry. And wanting the bloody dagger within to cut into your soul so deeply that you allow it to steal everything your life once yearned for, strived to achieve and to exist for the sake of love.
