as for local poetry my longtonian dad used to recite me this. does anyone know where it comes from?
molly dear a pint of beer
awoodbine and a match
a tuppenny halfpenny walking stick to go to the football match
after the ball was centred
after the whistle blew
old stanley got his hair off
and up that wing he flew
he passed it to old frankie
frankie wouldnt do
he passed it to ole nobby
and nobby banged it thru
where was the goalie?
when the ball was in the net
tied to the goalpost
with his knickers round his neck
they put him on a stretcher
they put him on a bed
they rubbed his belly with a lump of jelly
and this is wot he said
rule brittania
two tanners make a bob
three make eighteen pence
and four 2 bob xxx
