I've often spoken of a day in Speech class, year 10. We were required to give a speech citing 5 sources. I stole Susan Henshaw's speech on Disabled people in America and their rights. She only needed 4 sources. So I punched it up by writing a poem by pen-name, "Siegal Norris".

What is it like to be crippled I ask?
Is it when climbing a stairway seems such a great task?
Is it to be able to ask, but not hear the answer...
Or to be lying in bed and dying of cancer?

What is it like to be crippled, I question.
Is it going to daily therapy sessions?
Is it to be unable to see the dawn of each day
Or unable to see the reds, blues and grays?

What is in like to be crippled? I ask
I forget this line....
If none understands the crippled child of today
Then aren't we all crippled in our own sort of way?

Everyone in the class clapped. You had tears in your eyes and asked for my autograph!
I hope you still have it cuz it's worth at least, um, nothing. :-) Yet anyway.

Your little story about the kitchen chair was a little too close to home, although there was no touching like that. Just yelling.
