Riva. Pronounced Ree-va. Rock. Not indie rock. Not emo. Not Metal. Rock. Don't suppose Bon Scott spent much of his day explaining his band was a rock band, so I'll try to follow suit. What we are all about? Seems to be the question of the hour, for the past many hours. Simply enough, we are three guys who have been friends for far too long. Three guys who learned to play instruments together as tots and have had the good fortune to find the time to continue to do it as adults. One guy plays drums and creates awe. The other guy writes all the songs and lyrics, plays guitar and sings real nice. The third guy builds the recording equipment, arranges the tunes, records the records, administers the smallest record label in the universe and makes everyone smile in the process.
We grew up on rock and set out to create it much as our heroes did. As such, you will not find any non-linear computer recording on the records, countless edits to mask mistakes, software algorithms to make us sound in tune or worse, in time, or anything else on the long list of cowardice that is now accepted practice when it comes to recording music. We set up microphones in front of our instruments, play the songs and either live with our awesomeness or record over our frustration in the quest to make it right, as a whole take, together as a band. This practice was good enough for Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Grand Funk and ZZ Top, we take some pride in rising to that standard. Rock. Its a word used far too lightly in todays world.
Some of the things we do not currently have are, in no particular order: Management, Distribution for our catalog (domestic nor international), Public Relations staff, Marketing staff, an Advertising Budget or just about anything else that a proper record label provides for a band. We are three very old friends hanging out in a recording studio making music inviting our new friends to jam with us, the same way we have done since we were kids. Its from the heart, as grass roots as it gets and thank god we get to do it on our own terms thus far.
