always hate when people start stories off with, "I don't know where to start", but I truly, honestly do not. A friend of mine told me once that music is a very spiritual thing, he said be careful what you put your hands into! I've been mulling that over for a while, because whether you believe in spirits or not, you don't have to believe in music, it's there. You don't need to own a record player, or know how to play, or how to sing; what you do need to know how to do is listen. If you know how to listen for music, it's all you'll ever need, because music is everywhere (another really easy thing to say, but I mean it). I don't just mean coming through people's car stereos or out the windows of houses, there's a natural rhythm of things I'm starting to get accustomed to. Everyone in this band plays music because we cannot think if we're not listening, or playing, or something. This has led to some really disastrous downtime, including frequently locking my keys in my car, considering suicide or worse- the west coast, terrible eating habits, and a serious addiction to Peggle as well as other wonders of the PopCap family. This is all rare though, because we don't have a lot of downtime, nor do we plan on having it. Music is something that runs through all of us like air through forests or bad farts through the crowds of popular music festivals. Some of it is refreshing, some of it stinks, but it all means the world to us.
If you're here, good. If you're listening, better. If you like it, great. I make music because I want to create an outlet to feel, and maybe bring everyone a step or two closer to what they're looking for. Or maybe bring myself close to what I'm looking for. I don't know what I'm looking for. I'm always hungry. 90% of the time I'm actually looking for food. But when I'm not, I'm looking for a way to change, invent, and grow. I hope this music reflects all of that. I hope music never stops changing, and I hope there are always people who are willing to change with it.
Best,
Joe
"Imagine if Arcade Fire, Avett Brothers, and Modest Mouse started a band, and delivered it the way a GOGOL BORDELLO or MAN MAN show is presented...these guys had the energy of a classic punk rock band, yet polished and sophisticated." - Bill O'Brien, ShoreAlternative.com (Apr 03, 2009)
"Michelini and friends combine a smorgasbord of horns, strings, quick drum beats and infectious harmonies that will have you bouncing around all day questioning your religious upbringing, head bop by subsequent head bop." - Chris Loupos, Revolt-Mag (Apr 03, 2009)
"If Conor Oberst were struck by lightning and then eaten alive by the Electric Six, the post-meal bacchanal would sound something like River City's [NauticalSabbatical]" - Steve Bove, Asbury Park Press (Feb 20, 2009)
