Ainsi pourrait débuter, non sans provocation, un récit sur le monde dans lequel nous invitent les co-producteurs Rize & Kronos. C'est dans les méandres vibratoires de Milt Jackson ou de Gary Burton, les douces notes d'Ahmad Jamal ou de Bob James et les coups « vertébrés » d'un Max Roach qu'ils nous emmènent. Si au début, donc, était le jazz, à la fin sonnera Orjazzm. Avec comme ambition un orgasme musical, les deux producteurs associés ont su puiser dans un préliminaire afro-américain des années septante toute l'énergie qu'il leur fallait pour nous livrer un disque aux contours délicieusement métisses. Bien que d'un côté on y goûte la fine créativité de la soul, du funk et du jazz des trente glorieuses, de l'autre on touchera à ce qui a fait leur génération : le rap. Puisant dans les catacombes de la culture hip hop une idéologie et un savoir faire technique, Rize & Kronos y ont aussi appris l'art de l'hybridation. A l'instar de leurs maîtres d'oeuvres Jay Dee, Pete Rock ou DJ Spinna, les deux producteurs lausannois ont fait de leur machine à sampler une véritable machine à jouir..... On l'aura compris : Orjazzm se présente comme une fusion expérimentale entre jazz et rap. Si du côté des collaborations suisses on pourra se détendre et sourire sur la nu-soul de Tigerlily ou bouger de la tête sur les couplets de Nostra et de Phyl the Ill Lyricist (Japrazz), on trouvera du côté américain la précision métrique de Main Flow (MOOD), le débit fracassant de Insight et les fantaisies lyriques de Cee Know the Doodlebug (Digable Planets). .... « In the beginning there was jazz ». If there was a book of Genesis to the world that Kronos & Rize invite us to, it could very well begin in this way. They take us on a journey through the vibrant twists and turns of Milt Jackson or Gary Burton, the sweet notes of Ahmad Jamal or Bob James, and distinct beats of Max Roach. If in the beginning there was jazz, our “revelations” would definitely be Orjazzm. With musical orgasm as sole ambition, our two producers found all of the energy they needed to create a deliciously rich and diverse album. There is, on one hand, the obvious influence of seventies Afro-American music, with jazz, soul and funk as primary resource and on the other a more contemporary element: hip hop. It is from the latter that Kronos & Rize draw their ideology and technical know-how, based on the art of hybridizing and fusion. Following in the steps of master craftsmen such as Jay Dee, Pete Rock or DJ Spinna, our two producers have turned their samplers into real pleasure-machines. .... Orjazzm is an experimental fusion between hip hop and jazz that enticingly invites us to relax and enjoy tigerlily’s nu-soul, to bob our heads to Nostra’s and Phil the Ill Lyricist’s (Japrazz) sharp verses for the Swiss side on collaborations. Where as on the American side, we are immediately engrossed by Main Flow’s metrical precision, Insight’s stunning flow, and Digable Planets’ Cee Know the Doodlebug lyrical whims... ......ORJAZZM DISPONIBLE SUR I TUNES!! ......
