About me: Meet the Bean:
She had her first heart surgery when she was 6 months old and was adopted when she was around a year old. It was a happy little family that got the devastating news that Dad had colon cancer. After a tough fight, her dad passed on when she was six, and less than a year later she was diagnosed with Renal Dysplasia. Around age 8 she had her ureters replanted (they weren't hooked up to her kidney's apparently. Then shortly after that she was diagnosed with hypertension, which sound harmless enough, but in kidney patients it REALLY gets up there. The hypertension caused her to have 3 strokes before she was 15, the first of which actually was bad enough to cause her to have to relearn to read. She started peritoneal dialysis when she was 11.
When she was 12 RJB received a cadaver kidney transplant from "Emma" an 18 year old girl from California on January 22,2000 (we still celebrate it as a birthday, its amazing that a mom was so giving in the middle of such a devastating loss.)
There have been some odds and difficulties since then, but overall she remained in good health until July of '06 at 18 when her Medicare/Medicaid dropped her. Because she was adopted she had a different type of blah blah blah.....short version, we couldn't afford the 3-5K a month for her anti rejection meds. We found a few programs to help, but a doctor error left us missing the MAIN freakin' pill....and while we can never know if that is what caused the transplant to reject.....<----can you tell what I think?!?!
She went on hemodialysis and has been on dialysis since. Three times a week 3 hours a day. April of last year she had a major stroke caused by hypertension and had a seizure in the middle of a spinal tap, so when I got to the hospital I was hit with three things, Stroke, Coma and possible paralysis. She spent around 36 hours in a coma, then another 4 to 5 days in a semi coma. Responsive, but only sort of, and apparently only to me and the doctor. She went through all sorts of things following the stroke. It was almost a month before she was able to even eat solid food, and after horrible rashes and fevers were conquered and the month and a half of inpatient physical rehab....her dialysis port infected and she went back into the hospital with severe sepsis. Fun stuff.
Random pooptastic stuff still besets her, but for the most part she is happy, has plans to become an elementary age math teacher. She should already be on the stinking transplant list, but her last dialysis center never turned in the paperwork, nor did they feel the need to mention that they didn't file it....<---can you say lawyer?? I knew that you could Angry
In the middle of all this my best friend (and hers) Wieldymouse, joined the Army Reserves again for the sign on bonus and the extra income since RJB couldn't work, and she wasn't getting ANY financial assistance from the government. When I had an on the job head injury that put me out of commission, Wieldy transferred to inactive reserve status and signed on with LSI to work as a contractor in Iraq. If anyone reading this has any doubt about the good in humanity, I would direct you to Melissa "wieldymouse". She took a one year contract to make sure RJB and I had had a home and uh electric and food <--you need those. She will come home from spending a year in Iraq with not one penny to show for it. Almost every dime she has made has gone into a home she can't sleep in and for things she can't use. She works 12-15 hour days 7 days a week keeping Marines safe on Camp Fallujah then heads back to a crappy cot for three or four hours sleep so that she can do it all over again. When the contract is up, if she can't find a job that pays well enough for the mortgage, she may have to go back. If she does find a suitable job, there is a good chance she will be shipped back to Iraq as a Soldier as she intends to reactivate her Reserve contract.
Now that we have FINALLY gotten the paperwork in....they denied her because we can't afford the share of cost ahhhh, life sucks some days.
To raise the money a HALO 3 TOURNEY is gunna be held, with all profits going to the RJB charity to help make sure we can pay for her after transplant care!!!
The best gamer girl clan EVER Femmes Fatales has agreed to host and the most wonderful group of people over at gaming4others.org has agreed to sponsor the Tourney!!!
SAVE RJB!!!!!
