Bio
A few short years ago, Columbus, Ohio based singer songwriter Rj Cowdery changed her life. After years of working in health care she decided to become more focused on making music for a living. She has been making up for lost time ever since. In 2008, she was a New Folk winner at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival, and in 2007, a Mountain Stage NewSong Contest winner. Rj grew up in Belpre, Ohio (a small river town along the West Virginia border). Listening to her family sing at get-togethers provided the inspiration that would lead to singing to old 45’s in her basement: Hank Williams, The Everly Brothers, Elvis, The Beach Boys, Connie Smith, Carol King, Cat Stevens and the Carpenters. To name a few! Rj was shy about singing in front of people but after seeing a Nanci Griffith concert she saw and felt the power of music. “It was like a light switch was turned on. I became more focused on song writing. I wanted to be able to write and play songs that made other people feel the way I felt when hearing an amazing song. I love the intimacy and immediate connection that happens.” Rj started playing guitar in high school. “I don’t remember being all that into playing guitar until I cut the tip of my middle finger off my left hand (mowing accident). After that, I decided I would try and play by making my own 'finger' out of tape. I have had to make some adjustments in my playing, but it hasn’t held me back at all. I think I’ve developed my own style because of it and I couldn’t imagine playing any other way.” In 2008, Rj released her second CD, “One More Door.” A compelling gathering of 13 songs, ”One More Door” - a title very much reflective of the exciting promise of her current career good fortune was recorded live in only two days in Parkersburg, West Virginia with percussionist Ammed Solomon and guitarist Michael Lipton, who are both band members with National Public Radio's Mountain Stage. The sessions for the recording, were produced by renowned singer-songwriter Todd Burge. The disc also features the stellar bass playing of Don Dixon, a veteran singer, songwriter, musician and producer of such pop icons as R.E.M., Marti Jones, Kim Carnes, Hootie & The Blowfish, Marshall Crenshaw and most recently Sid Selvidge. Rj is playing coffeehouses, clubs, festivals and living rooms all over the country. She is very excited to be recording her third album in the fall of 2010. ...... ....<img src="http://cdbaby.name/r/j/rjcowdery2_small.jpg" width="100" height="100" alt="RJ COWDERY: One More Door" style="border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;" -

Looks like you're having fun. Nashville has finally forced recruited me into hosting two writers' nights down here. 14+ years and finally someone's convinced me to do so. To the 'older' crew, it's funny. To the 'younger' it's being called a blessing. To me...it's too much work!!! But I'm having fun too. Keep at it, always. Wish I could go visit the WC ranch when I get up there, too many people demanding my time. I might actually make it this time though, a childhood friend lives in the area. Hopefully, it would be good to see the Todds.
Blessings Always,
