Allow yourself the luxury of reviewing your personal history and where you currently stand in your life. But don't become so emotionally involved that you wallow in nostalgia. Looking back can be very healing, but don't let it stop you from moving ahead.
When you get down to it, we basically go back and forth between two basic emotions: love and fear. Fear can be healthy(fear of walking into traffic for instance) but most of the time, it's an unreal movie we are playing in our head. Fear prevents us from living our dreams, from taking chances, from living our lives the way would like to. Our fears hold us prisoner in jails of our own making. Only when we live through the eyes of love and not fear can we be truly authentic and true to ourselves.
