Roachmouth Records is located in an old house on an old street in downtown Toronto and is best described as music production studio that caters to local independent musicians and songwriters.
This is not a gigantic recording studio, nor is it a simple writing room, but it does fall somewhere in the middle. Every project brings different people and different genres, each with different starting points, requirements and goals... but all of these variations lead to two types of projects that consistently take place at RMR:
- Writing Sessions: Usually a solo artist has written a collection of songs - or maybe just one song - and has taken it as far as they can on their own. Generally what is desired is the addition of extra instrumentation, the recording of a better demo just to keep on hand, or just a place to relax and write. We'll work on an on-going basis to develop the music, over weeks, months or longer! So, "no", I don't think recording studios are only for those recording a full album.
- Full Production: This is more what you have in mind when you think "recording studio." Generally this work flow has a definite start date and dead-line, with the final goal of a commercially releaseable record. There are three seperate rooms, a wide selection of microphones, and some cool gear to make use of.
