OUR MISSION
The Cockroach - The Internet's Talk Superstation was the brainchild of a radio geek residing in the Northeast. It was originally known as "AM 930 The Cockroach". While it was one of his dreams to own and run his own station, reality sets in heavily these days, thus making the desire less affable. Unbound by the limitations of Internet radio (and maybe a repeater) it was decided a new station would come into existence, but it would offer something different. There's your garden variety "Jack" stations that play an extended music mix, but usually limited to a certain year range and aimed at a certain demographic. Since there's basically no advertising on this station, there's not much worrying about demos. Enter the concept of "playin' it all". It was determined that we'd offer a deeper variety of music - the only station that dares to throw in country next to rock and pop. And in effect try and challenge any real radio station when it comes to entertainment.

MusicHISTORY
The Cockroach's first broadcast was scheduled for Saturday, September 30 - thus the selected "frequency" in its original branding of "AM 930 The Cockroach". It played a highly eclectic mix of music on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as relayed "The Radio Racket" from Audio18.com.
The music changed to all-Christmas in late October. The Cockroach actually saw its listenership actually peak during this time.
Then it was decided in early December - with three weeks before Christmas Day - to go back to our roots and "play it all". The flip, which was hinted with clues between the Christmas songs, was met with disastrous results. It was then decided that the only way to win back the listeners would be to offer highly creative and entertaining programming.
Enter 2007, which proved to be a hectic year for the Cockroach. With the "RadioA2Z" program, it was still possible to "play it all" - only now in alphabetical order. And a different letter, every week. No other radio station in any medium had executed that idea before the Cockroach. Meanwhile, aside from the music programming, the Cockroach additionally strived to offer a unique and eclectic mix of talk programming found nowhere else on the Internet. While still relaying "The Radio Racket", it began running "Ham Radio" on Saturday nights. These shows, along with "Pam Stone" on Saturday mornings, would prove to be programs that played key roles in the station's future.
In February, the Cockroach, retaining its Shoutcast technology, started streaming exclusively through Loudcity.com, so at least the artists who made the "RadioA2Z" program possible would get their rightful royalties.
Apparently, that wasn't enough for the Copyright Royalty Board and Soundexchange to increase royalty rates for webcasters retroactively to 2006. As a result, the Cockroach decided to suspend the "RadioA2Z" program on March 31, at the same time teasing an "announcement" at midnight. The announcement, in the wee hours of April 1, 2007 - no joke - was a format change to all-talk.
And while Internet stations that relied on music hung in the balance, the Cockroach didn't want to be a garden variety talk station. They became "The Internet's Talk Superstation". They gradually built around "Radio Racket", "Ham Radio" and "Pam Stone" with other talk shows, podcasts and specialty programming.
At this point, the Cockroach has turned out to carve a pretty good niche, developing a cult following of some sorts. And over time, we've expanded our repertoire, even presenting the occasional music special. But our model is mostly rooted in the unique talk programming that is featured on our channel. When sophisticated listeners with a wild side choose to hear stimulating talk radio, with a dash of groovy mixed in, they choose The Cockroach - The Internet's Talk Superstation.
Now, in 2009, while we may have gotten smaller, we've just started to get bigger. "The Radio Racket," one of our benchmark programs, ended its seasoned run, which led us to scale back broadcasting hours, but that news was soon overshadowed by the debut of the channel's first-ever original show, and first program to broadcast live from the Roach Motel, "Twitter Time Live." The show is available in podcast form, of course, for those that miss the live Friday broadcast.

OUR PROGRAMMING

It's Twitterrific! The hottest thing in social networking now has its own weekly half-hour talk show. "Twitter Time Live!" brings you the week's Twitter news and tips, along with commentary, Twitpic of the Week, and of course, your tweets! The Cockroach's very first original program, as well as the first show broadcast live from the Roach Motel! Listen live Friday nights at 10 PM, with replays throughout the weekend (check listings for airtimes).

Tune in and pig out! "Uncle Eddie's Ham Radio" (formerly known as just "Ham Radio") is the radio show where anything goes. Listen as Uncle Eddie, Billy Nicknames and Battery Boy (a.k.a. Producer Danny) have fun and, ugh, ham it up. Listen to "Ham Radio" live, Saturday nights from 9-11 PM during our "Blue Zone" block. The Cockroach - The Extra-Terrestrial Radio Home of Ham Radio.

Bang! Join John Tayman and Tom Lacks for an hour of "flat-out" sports comedy on "The Bang! Cartoon Radio Hour"! The popular podcast that lampoons the sports industry usually airs every Friday afternoon on The Cockroach during football season, usually in the 4 PM or 5 PM hour. New shows will be sporadic until August, but once we get 'em, we'll air 'em, on Friday afternoons!

60 Minutes Of Twang, Crunch And Oomph! That's about the only way to describe "Radio Free Bakersfield", also known as "The Spahn Ranch Dance Party". Join your host Whorehay for an hour of unsigned and independent music, with a surfabilly edge. Ya dig? Listen to "RFB" every Saturday night at 8 PM during our "Blue Zone" block.

Get ADHD! You never know what these guys are going to say! Anything can happen - and does. Taking your phone calls and IM's; Skypers are welcome. Hosted by Video Vamp and Chicken Fingaz. Airs live Saturday nights at 6 PM during our "Blue Zone" block. A presentation of the No Holds Barred Radio Network. (May not be suitable for all audiences; listener discretion advised.)

Stay Up! A commentary-based show with takes on news, sports, and other stuff, spiked with some humor. From politics to porn, social injustice to sexual fetishes, it's the talk show with no limits. Hosted by Stephen McKay and Travis Winters. Airs live Saturday nights at midnight. A presentation of Kansas City Online Radio.

Pop A Top! It's been said that the most interesting conversations take place during the consumption of alcohol. Now, one show has taken it to the next level! Presenting "Free Beer", the show that you get when you mix friends with alcohol! Join Howie, Briana and their buds as they talk about whatever sobering topics are on their minds, and also profile new beers. Catch it every Saturday afternoon at around 3:30 PM. Because the best beer... is "Free Beer!"

Let's Rock! Let Louisiana's Ambassador to the Blues rock your weekend! "Mark Kerr's Rock Show" is dedicated to preserving, featuring and promoting the greatest rock & metal from the 70's, 80's and today. Hosted by award winning blues-rock guitarist and Blues Hall of Fame inductee Mark Kerr. Listen Friday nights at 12 midnight! Also, check out Mark's album, "One Drink Away From The Blues"!

The Truth Shall Set You Free! Now, Friday nights is when the Chairman of the Board rules the Cockroach. "The Frank Truth", the most popular Internet program celebrating the life and the legacy of Frank Sinatra, is heard Friday nights at 10:30 PM, right after "Twitter Time Live." Join host Brian Noe as he shares the facts and forays of Ol' Blue Eyes' talented career. You need to miss this show, like you need "A Hole In The Head" (1958 Sinatra film). And remember... May the last voice that you hear... be Frank's.

Who's Cheatin' Who? The television show that exposed philanderers is now catching the unfaithful in the act - right on your radio! Listen as host Joey Greco (he actually got stabbed during the taping of an episode, did you know that? Now, that is balls) breaks the bad news to clients, and tries to reason with the (former) lovers who done 'em wrong. Listen Saturday nights at 11 PM, right after "Ham Radio."

Catch The Breeze! Friday overnights, Kool Breeze is your nightbird as she plays the perfect blend of music for the Saturday dawn patrol. "Kool Breeze's Sizzlin' Blues" airs early Saturday mornings after 2:30 AM. Also, don't miss "Bikes & Breeze" on Friday afternoons (time approximate), as she plays the best variety of Southern rock to kickstart your weekend!
