Getting out and seeing the world, reading, music, movies, bicycles, politics, whatever geekiness I am ingesting this week...
Music
I’ve got hugely broad tastes. The stuff I probably couldn’t live without would include- The Clash, The Dropkick Murphys, Social Distortion, 16 Horsepower, The Ramones, The Pogues, certain Big Audio Dynamite albums, Dick Dale, Flogging Molly, Joe Strummer and the Mescalleros, Johnny Cash, Mike Ness, The Stray Cats, Shane MacGowan, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Mayall, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Marvin Gaye, John Wesley Harding, Rancid, Elvis Costello, Sons and Daughters, The Vandals, Sisters of Mercy, Misfits, DI, Meisce, The Black 47’s, the Real MacKenzies, the Blaggards, The Sharkey Doyles... As you can see I’ve got a Celtic fixation, so the Wolfe Tones, the Corries, the Old Blind Dogs, Jim Malcolm, and the Chieftans would have to make the list as well. I like political stuff, so the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Michael Franti, and some Steve Earle definitely get some play I could go on forever (and probably will at some later date...). For classic rock I tend to go for the Stones, Creedence, John Lennon, Hendrix, Sabbath, Zepplin, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplance, The Doors, Jethro Tull, The Animals, and the like.
Movies
Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill v. 1 and 2, Grindhouse, Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, Training Day, Elizabeth, King of New York, Man on Fire, Heat, LA Confidential, Proof of Life, State of Grace, Mystic River, The Boxer, Reservoir Dogs, The Godfather Trilogy, The French Connection, and Dirty Harry Movie, A Touch of Evil, The Third Man, Bullit, Vanishing Point, Blade Runner, Seven, Apocalypse Now, Angelheart, Ronin, Million Dollar Baby, Finding Neverland, Amelie, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Fight Club, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Harold and Maude, Being John Malkovich, The Blues Brothers...
I'm a historian and an academic, so a few historical flicks and documentaries might include: The Duelists, Tycoon, Burnt by the Sun, Last of the Mohicans, Rob Roy, Platoon, the Aviator, Alexander, Gettysburg, Gangs of New York, Unforgiven, Master and Commander, Possession, Platoon, Dogtown and the Z-boys, the Filth and the Fury, the Corporation, Manufacturing Consent, and Fog of War.
I'll give anything directed by Copolla, Scorsese, Tarantino, Mann, either of the Scotts, Eastwood, or Fincher a shot at this point.
Television
Documentaries: Frontline, Jazz, the Blues, Baseball,... I also like late night cartoons (Cowboy Beebop, Samurai Shamploo, Ren & Stimpy reruns, Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Aquateen Hungerforce, South Park), British comedy (Coupling, the Young Ones, Red Dwarf...), and crime dramas (Law & Order, CSI, you name it), West Wing (I wish Jeb Bartlett was really president), MI5. I have an obssession with Miami Vice that defies explanation. Since I used to fabricate bicycles for a living I like OC choppers and similar shows because I can identify with the process involved, the production pressure, and all the other BS they go through.
Books
The Master and Marguerite by Bulgakov, anything by Dostoevsky, A Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman, anything by Borges, the Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte, Possession by A.S. Byatt, A River Runs Through It, Lenin's Tomb by David Remnick, Mutual Aid by Peter Kropotkin, anything by Dorothy Dunnett, the Dwarf by Par Lagerkvist, George Orwell (particularly Homage to Catalonia and Burmese Days), Umberto Eco (particularly Foucault's Pendulum, but his other stuff is good as well), anything by William Gibson, Neal Stephenson's more recent stuff, Endless Enemies by Jonathon Kwitny, those books by that J.R.R. Tolkien guy that confirm I will forever be a geek...
I used to read thrillers, mysteries, and sci-fi (now that I'm a grad student all I have time to read is history for school). Stephen Hunter is my favorite for thrillers. I like Tony Hillerman and Ellis Peters for mysteries. For sci-fi I like all the classic stuff like Heinlein, Asimov, Herbert, and Niven.
Heroes
Joe Strummer, Noam Chomsky, Dmitri Yurasov, Henry Rollins, Emma Goldman, Alexander Herzen, Nelson Mandella, Scott Ritter, Hugh Thompson and Lawrence Colburn, Seymour Hersh, Raoul Wallenberg, Eddy Merckx, Woody Guthrie, and my mom, my dad, and my sister for putting up with my shit.... Beau (21 yrs old @ time of death- RIP)

Wow, that's really sweet... so sweet, in fact, that I am speechless when it comes to comments about that subject matter.
BTW, I can create another new profile for you if you want. Also, your song on your page has been deleted, so you might want to change that. May I suggest some Bon Jovi??? ;)
