The RoadKings we're never a traditional rockabilly band...that's the reason they could draw more than the 40 or 50 rockabilly nazis in each town...god bless the punks! We listened to everything from Johnny Caroll to the Misfits, from Joe Clay to the Clash and the Cramps, from Johnny Horton to early ZZ Top, Fabulous Thunderbirds and Stray Cats...we did everything we could to NOT put on a great little re-creation of the 50's...we would intentionally try to make it a hybrid just to piss the traditionalist off...no matter how great of players the neo-billies we're, we hated their lack of imagination and the lack of sex onstage...it was all about being raw and honest.
Sounds Like
If Johnny Horton, Joe Strummer and Danzig all grew up in Texas and started a band it would sound like the RoadKings....rawk on muther-truckers!!!
RoadKings started out in 91' playing around Texas....original members Jesse Dayton, Eric Tucker and Jason Burns played clubs like the BlackCat and the Continental Club in Austin, Club Da-Da and Trees in Dallas and the Satellite and Local Charm in Houston. After winning a loyal cult following in Europe the memebers of the band started getting involved in other projects....Daytons solo career, Tuckers studio musician career in NYC and Burns' ever-growing King Double Bass company on the west coast. "Alot of people think we broke up after I signed my first solo recording deal....not the case...we always kept playing shows and making records thru it all" Dayton says. Now with a brand new record on the way, (and a hell of alot of fanfare built up from all 3 members individual careers), a new tour bus, a new clothing/merchandise line and a new website being launched you'll be seeing a hell of alot more tour dates for the Kings!
