ROADSIDE AMERICA "Museum of Memories" Debut Opening September 29th 2007

The weekend of September 29th / 30th 2007 marked the first annual Roadside America
"Open Car Show", AND the official opening of the Museum of Memories. The show was held at the 100 year old Ford Dealership which has been renovated and now houses a fabulous collection of classic advertising memorabilia, cars and nostalgic memories. In Historic Downtown Hillsboro, Texas / 212 E. Elm Street.
The 2007 Car Show was co-hosted by Roadside America and The Cruisers Club. A great time was had by all.
The 2008 Roadside America’s “Elm Street Rod Run”
September 26 & 27 was another huge success. The 2nd annual Classic Car Event held on East Elm Street in Downtown Hillsboro consisted over 250 Street Rods, Customs, Classic Cars, and Bikes which filled a two block stretch of Elm just East of the Hill County Courthouse. The event was produced by Carroll Estes, owner of the Roadside America Museum and co-hosted by the R A Museum and The Cruisers Club. Interesting new sub-events this year were the addition of the Cushman Scooter display and an ugly truck contest.
Those attending the kick-off party Friday night were entertained by two great Texas bands, The Tucker Peterson Band, followed by Westbound. The music was kept alive during the day Saturday by Ernie Rabe, a great DJ from Waco, and also a live remote broadcast by KBGO Waco. Saturday evening had more great live bands for the crowd’s entertainment - Tucker Peterson followed by Leo Hull & the Texas Blues Machine. Those attending the evening band concerts were treated to some really great Good-Ol’ Texas style music.
Awards were given to the “Top 25” cars voted on by the participants.
Other “Special Awards” were chosen by some of the event sponsors and City officials.
The top award of the show was “Peoples Choice” which went to Marion Maddox with his beautiful 1957 Chevrotet Cameo Truck.
The show’s producer would like to thank all sponsors of the event including major sponsors: Cole Ford Sales, A Tiskit- A Taskit, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Board, City of Hillsboro, The Hillsboro Reporter, Texas Musicians Museum for music coordination, and Carl’s Custom Cars of Red Oak Texas for sponsorship of awards.

Pictured is a 1955 Pontiac full custom Starchief 2dr Station Wagon. The one-of-a-kind Custom was built and owned by Carroll Estes, the creator and owner of the Roadside America Museum. Also pictured below, another of Carroll's cars, a 1967 Corvette L79 coupe. Other cars in his collection include a 1929 Pontiac coupe Carroll built in 1977, a 1958 Chevy Delivery, a 1969 Grand Prix Model SJ, 1950 Nash "Lois Lane" convertible TBR, and numerous other vehicles in various states of renovation. The latest addition to the collection is a 1947 Studebaker bus coupe survivor car.
Carroll's background in Street Rodding, and as one of Texas's top classic car renovators is extensive, and goes back to the late 60s. Former owner of Carroll's Classic Auto Body, has built numerous show cars featured in most of the counties major Rod Magazines.
Carroll is now using his restoration talents to renovate the old Ford Dealership Building in Hillsboro, Texas, and turning it into a fabulous showcase for his extensive collections of nostalgic items.
The Museum is made up of hundreds of collectible items from the 40s, 50s, & 60s. Antique signs, soda fountain collectibles, juke boxes, pedal cars, drink machines, advertising icons such as three different Big Boy statues, Ronald McDonald, Jack-n-the-Box and others. A HUGE collection of Grapette Soda advertising, as well as Coca Cola & many other soda pop signs etc. These and many other very rare items help to take our older visitors "back in time". Visitors really seem to enjoy being reminded of a slower and simpler place in their lifetime. It also serves as a history lesson for those of the younger generation not fortunate enough to have been a part of that era.
The Roadside America Museum is available for class reunions, anniversary parties, weddings or receptions, or any kind of special gathering.
