Band MembersRichard Benjamin: vocals.

Robert Andrews: bass.

David Groves: guitar.

Steve Hillman: keyboards.

Dai Rees: drums.

InfluencesRICHARD: Far and wide, mostly sensitive and moving but also big and exciting with pretty much everything in between - some names I might mention include....... Roy Harper, Jim Page, Bert Jansch, Nick Harper, Mark Hollis, David Sylvian, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews, Robert Fripp, Joni Mitchell, Martin Furey, Tom Waits, XTC, Miles Davis, Tori Amos, Eliza Carthy, Roger Waters, Old Uncle Tom Cobbley and all............

DAI: My influences are pretty varied. I grew up (or maybe I haven't!) listening to 60/70's blues rock like Thin Lizzy, The Stones, Creedence, Bad Company, The Who, Whitesnake, Free & Status Quo but also take influences from such diverse artists as John Miles, Richard Thompson & Fairport Convention, John Martyn and film soundtrack music from John Barry. How does that sum me up?!

DAVID: ???

ROBERT: !!!

STEVE: From rock music keyboard wise my influences are: ELP’s Keith Emerson, Deep Purple‘s Jon Lord, Manfred Mann of his Earthband, Tony Banks of Genesis, Dave Sinclair of Caravan, Peter Bardens of Camel, Dannii Minogue, Rick Wakeman of Yes, Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream and a whole lot more…

Sounds LikeComplex arrangements, great musicianship plus one of the best female vocalists around. (Cyclops Records description for the "Ra Rising" album).

   About Ra (UK)
Ra is a five piece band (formerly a four piece band) playing original music (we're not very good at doing cover songs). The most famous band member is Steve Hillman and the least famous are the other four band members. To date, two albums have been completed: "Wake" was released in summer 2007, and "Ra Rising" in January 2009. Both are avilable from GFT Mail Order (http://www.cyclopsrecords.info/).

______________________________________________________________ Our new album will be the first to feature vocals. The first step is to demo the songs and these have become known as the "Kitsch in Sync" demos. Three have been featured on this page for quite a while now, and the remainder are waiting for vocal and keyboard overdubs. Hopefully these can be posted up when Richard has control of the page in 2010.

Musicians: Richard Benjamin - bass & vocals, Steve Hillman - keyboards, Brian Jones - special guest on electric guitar, Robert Andrews - Variax 500 guitar, Dai Rees - electronic drums.

Again - a song by Richard Benjamin.

Between These Walls - made by Prof, chosen by Dave (Rees).

Matter of the Heart - one of Rob's songs featuring new words by Dai.

Red Clay - another song by Richard Benjamin.

The Real World - made by Prof, chosen by Dave (Rees).

If Alive and Well - one of Rob's pieces featuring new words by Dai.

Kids on the Sand - composed by Martyn C. Jones (drums, keyboards and vocals) with one chord submitted by Richard Benjamin: possibly Magenta Crumpet's finest song.

Holy Man - a song by Neil Saunders chosen by Dave (Rees).

Shoegazer - Rob's outrageous rock song to feature new words by Dai and / or Richard.

(You've Sold) Your Only Ace - another song by Richard Benjamin.

Two Bit Hero - a song by the three absent former members of Coot selected unanimously by the two remaining former members of Coot.

Devil May Care - Steve Hillman's theme tune to a non-existent Bond movie.

All backing tracks recorded by Steve Bradley with overdubs recorded by Richard Benjamin and Steve Hillman. _________________________________________________________ During 2009 we have been featuring songs by related acts alongside the Kitsch in Sync demo recordings. These were changed on a monthly basis and the current featured songs are:

1. Ra - I don't think that we ever considered the 2000 demo of Saboteur for Ra Rising but as it is a most revealing arrangement I thought I would serialise the track on this page. Musicians: Dave Groves - guitars & keyboards, Malcolm Parker - drums.

2. RNA - from "Messenger - The Best of Robert Andrews". Musicians: Rob Andrews - guitars, David Gate - electronics.

3. Andrew Pinches - Few pieces of music have haunted me since I first heard them. This is one such piece taken from my cassette copy of his "Ark" album. Musicians: Andrew Pinches - keyboards, Jackie Robinson - vocals.

4. Jackie Robinson - Musicians: Jackie Robinson - vocals, Andy Pinches - instruments.

5. Fusebox - A live recording from 2003. Musicians: Russell Davies & Rob Andrews - guitars.

6. Pond Life - Musicians: Jim McCallum - voice, Phil Perry - electric guitar.

7. Land of Yrx - taken from the album "Walking into the Sky". Musicians: David Gate - keyboards & electronics, Rob Andrews - guitar. Contact: davegatetech@yahoo.co.uk

Hi Rob,
Long time no type.
Good to hear about the new music. I look forward to hearing it. Are you going to Summers End festival in October? It would be good to share a drink or two and a chat.
Take care.

Really like the new demo tracks, and am warming to the addition of Richard's vocals to the mix. With regard to Lake Viñuela, i hope you use it on one of your albums, perhaps as a "fade-out" track at the end, as it's really quite lovely.

Any chance of a larger photo of the group being posted with your pics, as it would be nice to put faces to names. I recognise the good looking brummie on the right, but not the rest of you. :)

All the best.

Excellent demos. Very cool, almost 70's feel to the sound ("Matter Of The Heart" in particular). Some nice chordal progressions as well (the muso in me coming out there - lol). I'm certainly looking forward to the finished product.

All the best,

Neil

Sorry about the delay in posting up a new set of songs - the MySpace editor keeps flagging up an "unexpected error". I'll keep trying over the next few days.
