music-- techno, electronica, new wave, progressive
hiking-- state parks, urban parks, greenways, historic towns
bicycling-- trails and city streets
coffee-- espresso based drinks esp. brevé latté
the garden in all its beauty or tragedy
meeting more creative people

Music that I like........
Alternative-- most not-so-mainstream stuff
Acoustic-- only the more creative stuff
Dance
Emo-- who cares if people living the Hip-Hop cliché don't like it
Electronica
Experimental-- style, content, instruments, anything beyond mediocrity that at least shows that they're trying
Noise pieces-- could be called experimental, but deserves its own notation
Punk Rock-- ass kickin' stuff, fast, hard, honest
Indie Rock-- it's the most creative mainstream sound around
Synthetic/Sampled-- can have sounds like nothing else
House-- more the Chicago sound, not more recent Hip-Hop influenced stuff
nothing racist or mono-racial like Classical, Hip Hop, Bluegrass, or Country.
Movies
Fight Club-- Layers of plot, commentary on the emptiness of consumerism, and dissection of the film-viewing experience.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-- Follows the book (surprise) and stars Johnny Depp
Eraserhead-- Low budget, and strange beyond belief. What it means, no one knows.
Star Wars-- Yes, in all its geeky appeal, a Sci-fi fairytale
True Stories-- Technology, jobs, small town characters, loneliness and Texas thrown together in one heartfelt, sometimes surreal movie. Narration by David Byrne of Talking Heads.
Everything is Illuminated-- Humor and deep meaning. A search for identity finds a broken past.
The Piano-- Only decent chick-flick around. Sexy, strange, deep.
Trees Lounge-- The emptiness of bar culture, destroyed futures and hope.
The Whale and the Squid-- a self absorbed, pretentious, disfunctional family
Television
Note: The is very little worthwhile on television, but I do like these....
The Young Ones-- Every stoopid episode. Brit comedy about culture clash between roommates.
Monty Python's Flying Circus-- Still the best comedy ever and still more original that anything else. Dead parrots, silly walks, dancing teeth, and outrageous French accents. What's not to like?
Star Trek: Next Generation-- The best of the Trekkie Enterprise. Technically far better than the original, better characters and story lines than any Trek after.
Nova-- PBS documentary program about science. Intelligent, informative, amazing.
Nature-- Another great PBS documentary, always wonderful, informative.
Books
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-- Hunter S. Thompson. A ride through the thrill of 1960's excess, in all its witty, riotous, introspective, and sometimes ugly glory.
Junky-- William S. Burroughs. 1950's through 60's early drug culture, a book of unparalleled openness.
Chaos-- James Gleick. A new science revealed, chronologically from early discoveries to formation of a new math and it's applications and how it changed science and knowledge.
The Emperor's New Mind-- Penrose. Just what is our perception of reality, and what is the mind made of.
Year's Best SF(the entire series ofannual compilations)-- by various authors. Some of the best short stories ever. The short story format makes it easy to read on busy schedules.
