Indie rock is easy. So damn easy. ...Or is it easy at all? If it is, someone forgot to tell Robert and Karen. Their music takes listeners to places unanticipated upon embarkation. (One critic famously called the band "a teleological mind-[bleep].") The journeys are fabulous, indeed. Yet the itinerary sometimes daunts the uninitiated. Consequently, Robert and Karen are known to confuse some people: "What am I supposed to be THINKING [while listening to Robert and Karen]?!" one listener pleads. (Hint: the vacuum of space). "The dynamic range of their music is such that I have trouble listening to their music while driving in my Buick!" cries another. And their name? Some have said it refers to an old philandering RKO producer and his ill-fated starlet/mistress. No, that rumor was disproved in the controversial Shackleton Investigation of 2001. But yes, the name is confusing, though not really all that different from a guy named Declan McManus calling himself Elvis & Costello (an exemplary duo in his own right).
But enough explication. Continue your journey at www.robertandkaren.net, where you can freely download the entirety of the pièce de résistance, From the Nervous System.

P.S. - Does this type of goofy bullshit nonsense turn you off? Let us know if you or your friends would be more likely to enjoy R&K if you were offered more straightforward information. There's a fine line between mystique and mistake.
i was visiting my aunt Bonnie in cali last week and I met Jim and Judith. We went out to dinner and they talked about Jim's sons in robert and karen. Jim gave me your cd, maximum love vibes, and I was listening to it all weekend. I really like the new stuff too. --john
I was wearing my R+K shirt, with pride mind you, and the girl at peets coffee was like "WOW, I love that band". My reply was to know of is to love. The sad truth is she has never seen the greatness live. Give the true believers what they want.
Oh, and I would also like any old mp3's from the first demo/cd. I seem to remember a song that goes "all across the barron sea...". yea send me that one.
I have lost all contact with the wonderful people in this band. I still remember selling candy for "The Bus Drivers Foundation" at De Anza about 5 years ago. Let me know if you guys are gonna be playing a show in the Bay Area anytime soon. I will come out, I'm serious.
i once knew a boy named micheal..he was my fan..then he got a shitload better then me...and suggested miike movies that make me question my whole perceptions on life...i'd say that's full CIRCLE, right?
I think I'm required by music law to troll any message boards about R+K as a disgruntled ex-member. But since I'm not disgruntled, even in the slightest, I must say, Nice work fellas! Slow and steady WILL win the race, you show em! ;) I look forward to any/everything in your near/distant future. Oh and quit forgetting Mike's guitar! I swear i keep trying to give it back!!
Compose many songs of love's sting!! Arthur... I think I saw you on BART today but I don't know if it was you... when I looked back again I was gone... Here, enjoy love's stingy thorns!
What is love?
I know.
Love is an angel
that slowly vanishes
into a past
full of meaningless words
and empty illusions.
What is love?
I know.
Love is cupid
roaming around with a bow and arrow--
an AIMLESS arrow
that always hits the wrong person.
Cupid's arrow is an AK 47
and the arrow the bullet
that never fails to pierce a hole
right where it hurts the most.
What is love?
I know.
Love is a rose
ripped apart into a million petals
falling from the sky
softly landing on the ground
streaming with the rain,
streaming with the blood.
What is love?
Where does the existence of an elusive force
hardly experienced by my own reality
begin and where does it end?
How can this invisible flow of energy
fit into a poem
written by a clueless ball of confusion?
What of love
if it is mute,
never addressed
only imagined
and only assumed?
What of love
if it might wither into the past--
into the shadows of yesteryear?
hey i saw you guys once in pinole i think, i was there with bravenewband, so that was quite awhile ago :) but anyway you guys were awesome! so just wanted to say hey!
Excuse me, I have trouble listening to Robert and Karen when I am driving my Buick. They are always arguing in the back seat. What should I do? Wait -- I don't have a Buick at all. But I do have trouble driving sometimes. Although it has nothing to do with Robert and Karen seeing as how I only listen to them on Myspace, and I can't very well bring in my computer to my car, now can I??? That would be stupid, and I would be the doer of the stupidificating action.
your music is sweet! its so rare that i come across any music on myspace that is quality, that'd i'd ya know download and listen to later. are you guys getting this MATE1 INTIMATE DATING banner at the top of the screen? with this girl with no pants, looks interesting i think i'm gunna enter into that
