Waking from a « Beautiful Dream » into radio-chart reality.
Shania Twain, Daniel Bedingfield and Faith Hill were blazing the national AC charts and out from the indie world came an unsuspected northern artist who turned his imaginative r&b pop single « Beautiful Dream » into radio-chart reality ; Hitting the number three spot on billboard, two spots beneath Shania Twain, Robert Blanchet’s tune of escapism - where real love and happiness can only be found within the confines of a dream - was charted as the third song most picked up by radio stations across the country that week. (Canadian Network Magazine).
The soulful acoustic ballad, inspired and co-written by Robert Blanchet (aka James Collins/Brett Rosenberg) also gained radio exposure within the french Québec market after Robert released a french version of the song.
Without the financial support of a record label, Robert invested the money he made as a web/graphic designer and content producer to co-produce, promote and fund his first solo music project.
Although he has performed on many great stages, nothing to this day, compares to the opportunity or the thrill of singing at one of Toronto’s largest stadiums, The Air Canada Centre. Every year, Robert and his acapella group « Roar » are graced with the opportunity to sing the national anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors. Together, the four members of this group have and continue to have the priviledge of singing for this national event. Today, they continue doing live performances for corporate events and charities. Roar, is founded by Paul Cooper, an original member of the Nylons. For more details, and to view Roar’s Toronto Maple Leafs performance, go to http://www.roar.to.
Robert also collaborated with a Toronto/Australian pop/folk indie band called Morris 8, which introduced him to his first real album experience and worked on a different genre of style that helped him become a better artist. Together, through sharing music wav files across the internet, they produced an independent album together. For more details, go to http://www.morris8.com
Robert was also hired through Sony/BMG to sing a selective number of demo songs for the Canadian Idol final contestants during one week of what is called Idol Boot Camp. Here he met established Canadian artists such as Shawn Desman, Keisha Chanté, Ryan Malcom and InEssence. The purpose of Idol week was to collectively get some of Canada’s top music producers to write songs for Canadian Idol finalists. Of course, they needed singers to sing these songs and this is when Robert got the phone call from Sony BMG.
During his leisure time, he is playing guitar, performing with Roar, working on his second album which he insists will be « more soulful, intimate and more autobiographical ».
