Robert's solo performance at the Minneapolis Women's Club (edited clips)
Robert Everest is a musician, singer, and songwriter whose ravenous appetite for the music of the world will never allow him to be confined to any one particular style. A native Minnesotan, he was first introduced to the piano at age 5, and at age 12 he acquired his first guitar, which remains his primary instrument, although he still composes and performs on piano, as well as many stringed instruments from around the world, including mandolin, Cuban tres, Andean charango, and Brazilian cavaquinho.
Robert has recorded two solo CDs of music from Latin America, Gracias a la Vida and Aquarela Do Brasil, which have received national radio play and taken him to many international tour destinations. He also recorded and co-produced the album Sonho Meu with his Brazilian dance-music ensemble, Beira Mar Brasil. His latest recording, the Robert Everest Expedition, was released in January, 2007 (The four songs in the above player are from that album).
With various musical groups or as a solo performer Robert has performed locally at venues like Orchestra Hall, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, the Cedar Cultural Center, and the Fitzgerald Theatre (sharing the stage with Chilean author Isabel Allende in front of a packed house for MPR's Talking Volumes). Among Robert’s international performance venues are Ono Galerie in Bern, Switzerland; the Golden View in Florence, Italy; Bar Tempo in Madrid, Spain; and Birdland in Budapest, Hungary. His extensive Brazilian repertoire truly came full circle when he was invited to perform in the birthplace of Bossa Nova - Ipanema, Rio De Janeiro - at the prestigious Vinicius Piano Bar.
Though mostly self-taught, Robert has studied jazz guitar in Minneapolis, classical guitar in Portugal, flamenco in Spain, Tango in Argentina, and many other Latin American styles of music throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean. His vocal technique has developed through many years of singing and instruction, including four years with the University of Minnesota Jazz Singers.
During the last 20 years Robert’s second life calling has been foreign language. With a degree in linguistics from the University of Minnesota, and many travels and studies in Latin America and Southern Europe, Robert has become fluent in several romance languages, which he brings to the stage in the songs he performs.

Getting more mileage out of the photo than gigs with MTVH1! But dammit, it was a good band and I'm still angry even though I don't live in MN anymore. Visit anytime. I'm trying to hook up with a couple of people in the Brazilian scene soon so I'll let ya know.
Good to know you! If you aren't doing anything on March 22nd come down to 400 Bar for X Ray Hip's CD release...I'll be singing a few songs with them. :)
Robert, Thanks for sharing your music. I'm looking forward to heading home to MN for Christmas - I hear there's snow!! I like your sound - relaxing. Brittany
