I've been a musician most of my life. My main instruments are tenor saxophone & flute, but I play all the saxes, and also percussion, piano & harmonica. I compose/arrange & produce music too. I love playing Jazz, Blues, R & B and classical, but I REALLY have a big love for Brazilian & Afro-Cuban music. In my 30+ years as a professional musician, I've performed and/or recorded with a long list of folks including Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Michael Bolton, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Brenda Russell, Lou Rawls, Della Reese, Jessica Simpson, Babyface, Kenny Loggins, Al McKibbon and lots of others. As a 16 year member and current musical director for blues diva Linda Hopkins band, I've made over 50 trips to Europe and Japan, and have performed internationally at many of the biggest Jazz festivals, theaters and clubs in the world. I'm also the MD for salsa singer Leslie Paula, and together with Leslie and her 11 piece “Latin Soul Band” have made several tours of Europe. I've played for the Academy awards, the Emmy awards, The BET awards, The Nick & Jessica Variety Show, Lou Rawls cavalcade of stars and many others.
In addition to being a live & session musician, I also lead several of my own groups and I've released 7 CD’s on my "Dark Delishious Music” label, which are available by clicking the CD cover images in the discography below. My instrumental band plays a variety of music with a focus on Latin & Brazilian Jazz, and we perform regularly at clubs and festivals all over the world. My Brazilian trio “Braziliando” plays a mix of classic & contemporary Bossa Nova, Samba & Brazilian Jazz, mixing both vocal and instrumental music. Our debut CD “Tempo de Brasil’ is the latest release on my label.
In addition to producing my own projects, I've begun taking on bigger projects as a producer, such as “Es Cosa Latina” (2004) for salsa artist "Leslie Paula and her Latin Soul Band” & "Oye Mi Ritmo-Oye Mi Voz" (2007) for salsa artist Miguel Gutierrez, both of which I also did the arranging for. I'm slated to produce Leslie’s next CD in 2008, and currently have several other projects in production.
There's more, but really, I don't wanna bore you. If you just gottta know more, please visit my website at www.robertkyle.com
