Sounds Like
Sounds a bit like this. This is myself, Chris Eaton (gtr) and Jon Pickford (bass) headlining the Acoustic Stage on the Sunday night at Guilfest July 2008. Below are the songs 'Blown Away' and a cover of the Mark Lanegan song 'Pendulum'...
'...very Mark Lanegan, Queens of the Stone Age influenced, and very good...that guy's got a great voice' Scott Ford (Twilight Singers, Gutter Twins) on The Scott Ford Show (About 'Black Marble Slabs')
Robert McCracken is a solo artist backed by an ensemble of great musicians, making moody, alternative rock and folk. He is from Surrey, England although he has also lived in Knoxville, Tennessee. Last year McCracken’s music received airplay on a number of American radio stations, the Tom Robinson show on BBC6 and he and his band headlined the Guilfest 2008 Acoustic Stage. This year he has a new EP on the way and will be following up with various London dates.
Over the past couple of years McCracken’s sound has developed from acoustic folk (like Donovan, Jackson C. Frank ) material towards avant-garde rock (in the vein of Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan). He continues to move between different genres, able to produce upbeat folk at the same time as darker, deeper material.
McCracken himself, was once an music journalist and critic for the magazine ‘Seven’. He has also written ambient music for synchronisation.
Like his major influences Mark Lanegan, Nick Cave and PJ Harvey he would like to have a long and constantly evolving musical career that would include albums, film scores, and song-writing for other artists.
The Original Press Release:
Rob lives in a flea-bitten, rat-infested house, Guildford, Surrey and makes his music in a studio at the bottom of the garden as the rain drips through the ceiling onto his pathetic, archaic equipment. He leads a thoroughly miserable existence amid the drear of modern life. Record labels may like to note that he is willing to descend into drug addiction and of course suicide in order to boost record sales.
