Robert Newland knew he wanted to be a singer and performer long before real life began to take course. “Crazy thing to remember, but I remember laying in bed as a kid late at night with a Walkman and envisioning that I was performing in front of thousands. I would listen to George Strait’s Pure Country tape over and over again. Live recordings always gave me the biggest thrill because of the roar of the crowd. Hotel California by The Eagles on their Live album gave me chills when I heard that crowd respond to music that I loved so much. I wanted to be singing that song to those people so bad. I remember putting my heart into singing a song to myself but yet at the same time, I had no idea why I did this. It was just what I did.” Born and raised in rural East Texas, Robert spent most of his time outdoors. It was on his parent’s farm in Smith County where he fell in love with hunting, fishing and riding horses. “I never really was in the house much growing up. If I wasn’t working out on the land somewhere, I was running through the woods with my buddies. If we got thirsty, we would take a drink from the water hose and go right back at it.” “Probably the biggest influence on me and my ambitions has been my Granny Sue Weesner. Granny got me started playing the piano at the age of 5. She and Papaw loved to hear me play a song. We would watch Hee Haw and the Opry Live when I spent the night there and listen to Hank Williams and Keith Whitley. Soon, Granny had me playing at church and for everyone that would listen. I miss her dearly. She passed away from heart complications when I was 16. That year I wrote my first song and I think of her every time I write and perform.” Throughout childhood and high school, Robert dedicated a large part of his life to playing baseball. He developed his skills enough to become a well known athlete within the local area and the state of Texas. He was named to the Texas All State Team when he led the state in strikeouts his senior year. “ I love the game of baseball. There is magic and a child like innocence about it. I used to pitch into a tire my dad set up for me behind the barn. I practiced everyday out there and to this day that tire and an old mound remains out in the pasture with the horses.” Robert went far with his baseball career and was awarded scholarships to play in college at Abilene Christian University. He then signed a contract to play minor league baseball and after two seasons of pitching in the minors, an injury ended his career at the age of 24. Robert then moved backed to Texas to try and land a job and focus more on songwriting and singing. For the following years he has committed himself to songwriting and becoming an artist. Since, he has opened up for national acts such as Blake Shelton and Joe Nichols and played in many large venues in the Houston and Beaumont area. In 2008 Robert started making regular trips to Nashville Tennessee where he plays/sings in writers rounds and meets with publishers. He is an active member of Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and is a registered member of BMI. In 2010, he signed his first contract on an original song with KMCA Publishing. Robert remains focused on pursuing his efforts in his music career and now calls Nashville home away from home. “Music is my life and I dream of making this a success everyday. I thank God for my abilities and feel extremely blessed to have the network of friends around that continue to shower me with support and encouragement. I love people and love to be able to give music to people. Everyone needs music in their life.” ....Myspace Scroll Box Creator.... .. .......... .. ....Myspace Layouts.. $layout_link / ..Hot Comments.. / ..Image Hosting.. .. -
