    LITTLE ASHES (2009)

As someone who has seen this movie, and is desperate to see it again (many more times), I am really passionate about 'Little Ashes' and I could talk about this movie for hours and hours. Robert stars as Salvador Dali on his upcoming movie, "Little Ashes". Salvador Dali is a world-renowned surrealist painter from Catalania, Spain. Not only known for his "unusual" paintings, he was also an exhibitionist who would go out of his way to shock people with his crazy antics.

"Little Ashes" focuses on Dali's relationship with famous poet Frederico Garcia Lorca (played marvellously by Spanish actor Javier Beltran). Despite being married to Gala and declaring her as his muse and love of his life, Dali spoke only of Lorca on his deathbed.

"Little Ashes" is a beautiful movie, beautifully acted and shot...with sweeping sceneries of the Spanish countryside. It is definitely worth seeing, especially if you are a Rob fan. You would see Rob as you've never seen him before. My favourite scene is probably where he was crouched on the floor, watching Lorca (a bit of voyeurism there) making love to Magdalena. Oh, and there's also the scene at the end, which I can't really talk about without spoiling the story. I guess I just want to say that Robert potrayed Dali's pain with amazing depth. And the mannerisms, the gestures, the way Dali talks and moves..he's nailed it down perfectly.

I can talk for days about this movie but I will just bore all of you. You should just go and see it...it's definitely worth your time and money.

    TWILIGHT (2008)

In the movie Twilight, Robert stars as EDWARD CULLEN, the irresistable 108-year old vampire, created by Stephenie Meyer. Stephenie extremely successful "Twilight" saga centres on Edward and Bella's relationship. On the surface, Edward is unbelievably beautiful, confident and charming. On the inside, he is insecure and full of angst and fury. He hates himself and everything about his lifestyle.

When Edward met 17-year old Bella Swan, he fell in love for the first time, and his life completely changes. Bella and their relationship becomes the focus of his existence.Edward and the other vampires in Stephenie Meyer's world are very attractive. They also move at the speed of lightning and are very strong. Some of them also have special powers, and Edward's power is the ability to read everyone else's minds (except for Bella's).

Twilight will be released in Australia on the 11th of December 2008. If you haven’t heard about the movie, go and check it out. It’s all over the internet. And if you haven’t read Stephenie’s books, please….please…please…read them. You won’t be disappointed.

    HOW TO BE (2008)

HOW TO BE is a wry new indie comedy out of the U.K. that explores the tribulations of the phenomena of systemic dysfunction in the modern, western society. The film tells the story of Art (Robert Pattinson), a twenty-something dejected soul trying to find his way in life. Rejected by his girlfriend, essentially ignored by his parents and ruefully unhappy, his only constants are his two friends Ronny (Johnny White) and Nikki (Michael Pearce)—who are just as “lost” in their own lives. On a quest to “fix” himself, Art enlists the support of an unconventional self-help guru to help him reach a level of contentment in his life. It’s a coming of age story that even forty-somethings can relate to.

Written and directed by Oliver Irving, and produced by Justin Kelly, the film is brilliant and thoughtful with a few laugh-out-loud moments that remind you of just how absurdly funny we can be when trying to fit in and find our way in life.

The casting is equally brilliant with characters rich enough to make you want to sit down with them and get to know them better—specifically Nikki, who almost stole the film for me, though Ronny would prove to be a interesting character study as well. At one point in the film, I found myself wanting less of Art and more of them. That’s not to say that Robert Pattinson didn’t offer an exceptional performance as Art, because he did. He’s a unique talent and I look forward to more from him in the world of independent film. All in all, HOW TO BE is a gem of a film and one to seek out at your nearest film festival.

    THE HAUNTED AIRMAN (2007)

The Haunted Airman is a BBC 4 production based on Dennis Wheatley’s 1948 novel, “The Haunting of Toby Jugg”. It is a psychological thriller with underlying supernatural elements. It was written and directed by Chris Durlacher; who has directed a number of TV features including George Orwell: A Life in Pictures, Kenneth Tynan: In Praise of Hardcore and The Yellow House.

The movie began with a World War II air battle scene; shot in muted colours and unsteady camera motion to enhance the feeling of the nostalgia and gloom. Lieutenant Toby Jugg (Robert Pattinson), an RAF bomber, became paralysed from the waist down when his plane was shot to the ground. He was taken to Llanferdach, an RAF nursing home in countryside Wales. Soon after he arrived, he realised that there was more to Llanferdach than a place of respite for people with mental and physical disabilities. Toby was counselled by Dr Hal Burns (Julian Sands) who seemed to enjoy spying and locking him up in his room. He had very disturbing nightmares, attacked by a large number of spiders and saw shadows in the middle of the night. When Aunt Julia (Rachel Stirling), his only living relative, came to stay at Llanferdach, Toby was initially relieved. Nevertheless, he gradually became suspicious and weary of her presence in the house.

Julian Sands, who is a veteran in horror films, played the sinister Dr Burns convincingly. However, it was the 20 year old Robert Pattinson who stole the show. The relatively unknown actor who barely had any acting experience successfully portrayed the tormented Toby Jugg with a range of depth that was rarely seen in such a young actor. He managed to capture the audience with a combination of youthful innocence and mature determination in dealing with the terrors he had to face in the eerie mansion.

The movie bears little resemblance to the book it was adapted from. Dennis Wheatley was a writer whose books were always laced with exorcism, black magic, satanic worship and general occult themes. There were many differences between the book and the movie - after all, it would be nearly impossible to squeeze a 320 page novel into a 60 minute TV feature. However, the biggest difference was the lack of supernatural themes displayed in the movie. Was Llanferdach a haunted house, occupied by shadows and the creatures of the other world- or was it merely a figment of a traumatised war hero’s imagination?

    THE BAD MOTHER'S HANDBOOK (2006)

‘The Bad Mother’s Handbook’ is a film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Kate Long. This is the story of the lives of three generations of women... Karen (Catherine Tate), her teenage daughter Charlie (Holly Grainger) and Karen's mother (Anne Reid).

When Karen discovered that Charlie was pregnant, she insisted that Charlie have an abortion because a baby will disrupt her plans to go to University. Charlie decided to keep the baby, despite her mother’s opposition. Fortunately, her gradmother respects her decision and stood by her.

Robert Pattinson stars as Charlie’s “loveable-geek” boyfriend Daniel Gale. In the beginning, Charlie didn’t want to be seen with him. Nevertheless, Daniel remained devoted to her throughout her pregnancy, even though he wasn’t the father of the baby. By the end of the story, both Karen and Charlie realised that hardships in life are much easier to bear when you are surrounded by people who love you. And at times where you have to choose, love is always the best option.

HARRY POTTER GOBLET OF FIRE (2005)

Robert Pattinson stars as Cedric Diggory in the fourth instalment of the Harry Potter series, The Goblet of Fire. Although he was famous for being “that guy who died at the end of the movie”, Cedric was a lot more than that.

Cedric was one of the brightest boys in Hogwarts. He was a Prefect and also the Hufflepuff's Quidditch team Captain and Seeker. He was strikingly handsome, very popular with girls, smart and strongly upholds justice. There was one occasion where he refused to be the winner on a Quidditch game because Harry was being attacked by Dementors and fell off his broomstick. He is often described as the 'strong and silent' type. As for his well-known popularity with girls, Cedric went out with Cho Chang, the prettiest girl at Hogwarts. His death left a huge mark in her life and it was very hard for her to forget about him.

Robert didn’t play a huge role in Goblet of Fire, however, his performance left a lasting impression on many Harry Potter fans. It was the film that gave him ‘the big break’ and paved his way to movie stardom.

About me:

Robert Thomas Pattinson was born in London, England on the 13th of May, 1986. He has two older sisters, Lizzy and Victoria. He became a model during his teenage years, and used the money he earned from modelling to support his education. He went to Harrodian Private School in London, where he met his best friend, Tom Sturridge. When he was 15 years old, he dabbled in acting and joined the Barnes Theatre Company. He acted in a few small roles afterwards, until he took on the role of Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter, Goblet of Fire movie in 2003.

The success of the Harry Potter franchise opened up many doors for Robert. He played a small role (Cedric died at the end of the movie) but he really put everything into it. After Harry Potter, Robert starred in a number of 'made-for-TV' movies. One of my favourite role is Daniel Gale in the Bad Mother's Handbook, released in 2006. He portrayed the kindhearted geek brilliantly. And he was also amazing as Toby Jugg in the Haunted Airman (2007).

During the "How To Be" Q&A at the Austin Film Festival (2008), Rob mentioned that he almost quit acting (to concentrate on music) when the role of Art in 'How To Be' was offered to him. I haven't had the chance to see that movie, but from what I've heard, and the awards the movie had won, it is definitely a movie worth watching.

After 'How To Be', along came 'Little Ashes'. Robert played Salvador Dali, the surrealist painter and exhibitionist. He played alongside Javier Beltran, who starred as Lorca, the poet who fell in love with Dali. The movie outlined the detail of their relationship beautifully and Robert's performance as Dali was both heartbreaking and very engaging.

Robert's interesting CV caught the attention of the casting agency who were looking for someone to play the vampire Edward Cullen in the upcoming 'Twilight' movie. When he was chosen, a lot of people disapproved. They didn't think he would be a good Edward. However, through sheer dedication, he's proven that he can be Edward. A very good Edward. And from then onwards, the rest is history.
