   About Robert Sabin
Robert Sabin has been distinguishing himself on the New York jazz scene for over a decade by performing in an enigmatic cross-section of musical genres. He was awarded Second Prize in both the 2001 and 2003 International Society of Bassist's Jazz Competitions, and has appeared alongside such artists as Oliver Lake, Dick Oatts, Donny McCaslin, Luis Bonilla, John Riley, Dee Alexander, Aaron Johnson, Jim McNeely, David Leibman, Chico O'Farril, Billy Taylor, Ted Rosenthal, Dianna Krall, Bill Watrous, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Turtle Island String Quartet, Steve Turre, Vince Mendoza, Roland Hanna, Giacomo Gates, Mellisa Hamilton, Robin Aleman, Bob Mintzer, Carl Fontana, and Ernie Watts. Sabin formed his avant-goth jazz group in 2005 around the audaciousness and talent of members, and with an insistence on immediate musical consequences. Featured along with Sabin are Mark Stanley, guitar, Jason Rigby, saxophones, and Brian Griffin, drums, and later Russ Johnson on trumpet. The first self titled recording was loosely based on a deranged man's evil plan to build a town ravaging instrument of destruction in the form of a heavily armored and amunized bulldozer. A torrent of vulgar, howling mad, and sensitively reflective instrumental jazz, handcrafted for the enthusiastic audio ghoul. The CD also featured a tribute to the late internet hero "Tourettes Guy", and a send up of the standard "Nobody Does It Better". The follow up album entitled "Romero" is inspired by the legendary work of filmmaker George A. Romero, and the blinding fx gorgasms of Tom Savini. The musical episodes represent the sentimentality, melancholy, independent insubordination, fissured creativity of Romero’s films, as well as Sabin’s sweet and paralyzing compositions. Sabin holds an M.M. from the Manhattan School of Music in jazz performance, as well as a BM from New York University. As an educator, Sabin is Coordinator for the Jazz Program at the New York Summer Music Festival and Institute, conducting and teaching alongside world class artists from The Philadelphia Orchestra, Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Curtis Institute, and Manhattan School of Music.  As an educator, he is the conductor/director of the Hunter College High School Jazz Ensembles, and accompanied them during their 2003 tour of Spain, which included performances in Barcelona, Valencia, and Escorial. He has served on the faculty of Teachers College/Columbia University, and the Hartwick Colleg Summer Music Festival until it's demise in 2005. He is a New York Pops Teaching Artist, and has participated in their Musical Mentors, and the Create a Symphony program. Robert Sabin was a 1998 Recipient of a fellowship from the Henry Mancini Institute to perform with the HMI Concert Jazz Ensemble, Studio Orchestra, and Jazz Combo, with performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Disneyland, Playboy Mansion, and Carpenter Center in Long beach, CA. ..Myspace Layout Generator-Layoutgen.com
