Born in 1978 and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Rob Has been playing music thoughout his entire life. After moving through several different instruments, Rob discovered the electric bass in the seventh grade and subsequently the upright bass in the eleventh grade.
He went to McGill University in Montreal, stuyding with Daniel Lessard, Brian Hurley and current Principal Bass of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Brian Robinson. He completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance with High Distinction in 2001. He then got a full scholarhip to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder and study a dual-concentration (Jazz and Classical) Master of Music degree. There he studied with Bass Soloist Dr. Paul Erhard and his degree was expertly guided by trumpeter/educator Dr. John Davis. Upon completion of his Master's degrees in December of 2004, he moved back to Montreal to pursue his career in music.
Throughout his career, Rob has interacted with musicians in Ottawa, Montreal and the Boulder/Denver area gaining experience in numerous musical situations including jazz ensembles, jazz combos, chamber groups and symphony orchestras. He also has studio experience, having recorded several large and small group jazz sessions.
Along with freelancing in the Montreal and Ottawa areas, Rob is currently the bassist and arranger for 15-year-old singing sensation Nikki. This group is in the middle of recording her first album and is eagarly awating summer touring and the great prospects for the future.
Besides all of that, Rob is also discovering a new talent for photography and web-design. He has designed and launched several websites for Montreal-Area musicains and is quickly becoming quite adept with his Nikon D-70 camera. You can check out his work more closely at www.robfahieproductions.com.
