After picking up the guitar at age sixteen, Robin hasn’t looked back. Originally inspired by guitarists like Angus Young, Jimi Hendrix and the phenomenal Peter Green, Robin went to work with teacher and mentor Alex Loveard (from the band Feeler) to hone his earlier styles in the studio.
These sessions produced a talent showing greater potential than anyone realised. In 2002 he enrolled in a music degree course at The Guitar Institute, studying under, amongst others, the jazz/metal fusion master Shaun Baxter.
In 2003, during his second year and after progressing successfully through the first year, his stand-out playing ability got Robin chosen to represent the Guitar Institute and Peavey Amplification at The Birmingham Guitar Show.
Back at The Guitar Institute, Robin’s studies carried him into the realms of sweep and alternate picking, legato and tapping, techniques used by some of the guitar greats such as Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Greg Howe, Frank Gamble and others. Robin now teaches at the Yamaha Music School.
In 2005, Robin’s playing matured and developed into a style fusing elements of speed metal, tap and sweep, and forged a direction onto the edges of his tutors own jazz/metal fusion.
After completing his degree in 2005, Robin still incorporates the stylings of his permanent inspiration, Yngwie Malmsteem as well as incorporating his own unique style to create a fusion of jazz and rock.
He is currently studying arrangement and scoring, along with working on tunes for his upcoming solo album and recently went down a storm at the Lounge on the Farm gig at the Canterbury Music Festival in June 2007.
