i've collaborated with many artists and musicians.
"ALTERED STATES" allowed me to work with many artists I love that are regulars on Myspace and KCRW (89.9 in Los Angeles or kcrw.com) including:
Inara George, Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile), Jesca Hoop, Gary Jules and The Section Quartet, Lisa Loeb and Steve Reynolds, Jim Bianco, Pete Yorn and Kinky, Minibar, Rachael Yamagata, Julian Coryell, Quincy Coleman, Julianna Raye and Nic Harcourt. Please visit robindanar.com for more information.
As far as musicians, the whole LA community has helped with this project. i can refer you to amazing players to hire if needed.
Influences
Quite varied, both live and in studio. see "About Robin"
ABOUT:
Robin Danar is a modern version of what the music industry once was. Robin comes from a time when contributions by a producer were much more than what they often are today--when musician/arranger/producers had names such as Tom Dowd, Leon Russell and Al Kooper.
He applies this old school artisty and sensibility to new music and technology. Robin understands the landscape and it appears remarkably in all of his work. He has plied his trade worldwide, sharing his talents as a musician, recording and mixing engineer, and producer with scores of artists.
HISTORY:
Robin began in the studios of New York City engineering records for mentors such as Steve Lillywhite, Phil Ramone, Gary Katz and Russ Titelman with artists like Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Material and Chaka Khan. At the same time, Robin was doing live sound and recording at CBGB's in its prime with bands ranging from Blondie, the Ramones, Patti Smith and Television through the Dead Boys and The New York Dolls.
For over a decade while mixing front of house sound internationally for acts including Laurie Anderson, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, The B-52's, The Church, The Blue Nile and Cyndi Lauper, Robin was always finding new artists, developing their careers and producing their albums. He also continued producing live performance recordings and broadcasts. Recent projects include albums with Judith Owen and Abba Roland as well as live recordings with Macy Gray, Five for Fighting and Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. He was also involved in recording Bonnie Raitt and Los Lobos for the Wim Wenders film "A Soul of a Man", part of the PBS series "Martin Scorcese Presents The Blues".
Continuing to dance back and forth between live and studio productions, Robin has also enjoyed his role as Technical Producer of many special events, handling all aspects of live audio, broadcast audio and recording.
Robin is very involved with Santa Monica's KCRW, one of the most well respected radio stations in the United States. His role as a producer of the annual "A Sounds Eclectic Evening" includes performances by artists such as Beck, Norah Jones, Beth Orton, Shelby Lynne, Zero 7 and others. Recently the featured artists for the show and recordings have included Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie and many special guests.
His role as a producer of the critically lauded Shortlistofmusic Award has included similar broadcasts and recordings of the show for MTV and XMRadio with a great variety of artists including Damien Rice, Interpol, N.E.R.D., Bright Eyes, Sigur Ros, TV on the Radio and Cat Power. Robin also helped put together a stellar jam featuring Iggy Pop, The Hives, Pete Yorn and Mike Watt, a fun ending to a great night.
Now, beginning with “Altered States”, Robin is exploring new territories as a recording artist looking to push established performers and songs in new directions towards new fans.
PRESENT:
Recent projects include producing LA band The 88 as well as touring this year with both Sia and the Blue Nile. He's also working on tracks with Celia Chavez, Moceanworker and Gabriel Gordon with a Raul Campos remix coming as well.realeditorbest profile toolsrealeditorbest profile tools
