History. Cultures other than my own, interesting food, I used to be obsessed with rock climbing and high altitude mountaineering but I'm over that, I was a professional photographer for 13 years but I'm over that too. One day I'll learn zouk, samba, african dances, salsa, swing. I speak a little bit of Spanish,French,Russian and Japanese but I'm not fluent in any language other than English, I'd like to change that.
Music
Di Sarli with Podesta, Di Sarli with Ruffino, Di Sarli instrumentals, Biagi tangos, Biagi valses, Canaro milongas, D'arienzo milongas, D'arienzo tangos before the mid 40's. 40's Pugliese, usually i get obsessed by one song a month.
I guess right now it's "Recuerdos de Bohemia" by Fresedo (hi Jennifer).
Movies
La Dolce Vita by Fellini ( i remember seeing it in my 20's and wanting to be like the main character, i saw it again in my 30's and felt so bad that i had succeeded, i'm much happier than that now), Casablanca (i always cry when they play La Marseillaise), the Third Man, Bicycle Thief (my favorite moment is when the little boy is peeing), Tampopo , Yojimbo by Kurosawa,
i generally love Fellini and Almodovar and most Wim Wenders. i like a lot of Kurosawa, i liked his film "the Idiot" but i fell asleep the first two times i tried to see it, i loved it the third time when i actually succeeded in staying awake.
Television
I really really hate it. Please don't have it on when i'm around. I grew up with it on all the time.
Books
Lawrence Durrel (the Alexandria Quartet is amazing), Shakespeare, Sartre (his novels not his philosophy), James Joyce, Hesse (when i was a teenager), Simone de Beauvoir her biography and some of her novels), Murakami (very recently), Kerouac (when i was 16), Raymond Chandler (for beaches), Eduardo Galeano (Las Veinas Abiertas de Latin America) everyone should read it.

So I'm laughing a little today as I found out that the possibility of you not teaching group classes in NYC has spawned an online "save Robin Thomas Tango in New York group". I'm not exactly sure what this group intends to do... perhaps a kidnapping is in the works? Regardless, it does feel a little bit like an end of an era... Empire was my tango birth place.
On another note - I watched the videos you posted. Two comments: what's up the the little skinny sumo dude wupping the big one's ass? And secondly, I watched the whole f'ing bull fighting thing praying that sooner or later that stupid bull would figure out that the cape was not behind it all, and that sooner or later the matador would get the horns. Alas... no such luck. I've never taken the time to watch bull fighting before - the "culturally exploritative" side of me wants to "respect" it... but the rest of me finds it a sad spectacle...
hows b.a.? i'm so excited for my trip! and for your trip as well! is there anything you think i should know about traveling there? i want to know everything about this place! i leave good ol' cow town jan. 1st for argentina. hope all is well. xo, janey
So last night, I slept with the knee brace on (compression) plus wrapped in a cold pack. I can't say that I feel unfazed from yesterday, but I confess I expected to hurt a lot more this morning. There must be something to this cold/compression thing after all...
Thank you so much for coming to LA. It was an incredible experience for us all and we can't wait for your return!! Looking forward to seeing you before that- in San Diego! A warm close embrace to you!! COCO
When you're right, you're right. And you my friend, are right a lot. I danced with Maria last night (sure, it's a few weeks after you first suggested it... I'm a little slow). Power steering to the extreme, and within about half an hour, she and I had worked out two leads to boleo shapes that apparently she'd never been led in, and I'd never led on someone. Craziness.
i was watching the food network, and on it was "No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain", it was in Argentina, and he was drinking mate when i turned it on. i just thought of you, what can i say.
We can't wait for you to come to LA (now in September- very soon) and show us the great steps and sounds too. Ya!! Let us know if you need anything else. A warm close embrace from all of us!!
No abandonment! tee hee. I was busy blowing glass and peddling my jewels at a show, going to Paris, trying to maintain fabulousness 8) It felt good to be back last night... See you this week! Big smiles on the return of Kyla!!
I was looking at my page and realized your photo is all over the place... Kyla's main pic... Jennifer's main pic... you're a popular guy. I'm almost tempted to get a picture dancing with you so I can follow suit. ;)
Robin! I taught a private today and was tipped 20$ hahahahhahaha
then i went out and couldnt get into a concert i had a free ticket to because i had no id, and on my way home learned the consequences of small pockets, and lost my tip. hmmph.
