just me, but beth burrows sings harmony on some of the new songs
Influences
in no particular order : springsteen, jayhawks, counting crows, crowded house, billy joel, sheryl crow, elton john, tom petty, del amitri, paul simon, richard thompson, john mellencamp, david gray, ryan adams, bryan adams, if there's an artist out there called dianne adams i'd probably like her too.....oh, it goes on and on and on.......i should also put in beethoven & ike quebec to demonstrate a wide and eclectic taste
Sounds Like
i'd like to say that i don't sound like anyone, i'm so totally original, but, let's face it, i ain't pushing the outside of any envelopes - perhaps a little bit of david gray, maybe some damien rice, some people say there's some billy joel in there (but there isn't really), james blunt? well, only because it's singer-songwriter stuff.....errrr....errrr......this is hard! from now on, when anybody says who i sound like i'll come and change this profile.....ok, here's a couple of recent suggestions....bob dylan....peter gabriel....korn (shurely shome mishtake!)...been getting a few "james taylors" recently...and sometimes a "randy newman" which i'm very pleased about.
..
The only bit I really like is the writing.
Part of me wishes it could stop there, but I get curious as to what the songs might sound like if I recorded them.
My hermetic existence, and certain control-freak issues mean that I do everything myself; writing, playing, singing, recording etc. and I'm more than aware of my limitations, particularly with the singing, but I've never felt ready to share the creative process, so I have to live with the knowledge that the songs could, in the right hands, sound a whole lot better than they do at the moment.
Up until recently I've resisted the urge to perform, but I have dipped my toe into the water...then I took it out, dried it off, and went back to my darkened room....too much excitement.....but I think it's something I've got to learn to enjoy (endure), because it's a great way to get people to hear my music, and once in a while people say quite nice things which gives me a warm feeling all over.
I've produced 5 albums all of which are available to buy from
CDBaby.com and iTunes (click on the album covers below). You can also buy them directly from me, thereby cutting out those pesky middle-men...so drop me a line. Even those $0.01 streams from obscure websites are very much appreciated.
I've finished writing a bunch of new songs and am now recording a new album that's going to be mainly acoustic, inspired by my open-mic experiences....it'll take quite a while (due to the combination of being lazy and working slowly) but maybe I'll have it finished by the end of 2009 (perhaps that should read 2010).
You can also check me out at GarageBand where there are more songs uploaded (and it sounds a whole lot better than MySpace...why is that?) and loads of song reviews.
And finally I have an alter-ego as a part of a duo recording children's songs...see the album cover for "Over The Moon" below...it'll be available from 10th December 2007...come and visit us on Beth Burrows' MySpace page.
I just stopped by to say hello and that I'm glad to hear you and writing songs again. Never mind the quantity, it's the quality that counts and you always come up with that.
Hopefully the weather's turned lousy in Ashbourne so that Robin is forced to stay in and record more music for his greedy fanbase.
It's fun to see the acoustic tracks slowly take over your MySpace player. I'm excited for the release of the acoustic album; it'll be great to turn a fresh ear to Robin Tymm songs I've listened to a thousand times. Not that I wouldn't happily listen to the original a thousand-and-one times, mind you...
And once that's released, you can get cracking on your next album of original material. Might I suggest that you fly to Seattle and get Geoff Stanfield to produce it? He's been a blast to work with, and I've seriously caught myself wondering what your songs might sound like in collaboration with him(!). Collaboration can be such a magical beast.
I really like 'Tracing Lines', and not just for the obvious reason, or even the more obvious reason of it being a good song .. but for all the 'tracing lines' stuff in the lyric .... just a terrific image that you make more subtle as the song progresses.
Y'all really should print some more. I have a cousin who's having a baby in a month or so, and eventually my little sister's gonna get around to having kids with her husband. I'd love to be able to give them a copy each and say, "Yeah, I know the cow on Track 9 (or whichever track it happens to be)."
Robin, hope things are going fantastically sir! Just wanted to let you know that we wrapped filming earlier this month and I'm in the editing process. Can't wait to have something to show you.
Also I really enjoy your new song Signposts. Good stuff sir.
oh yeah! i forget to tell you.. i was going through my photo album and came across this picture i took of you when you came to visit me... it is such a nice picture of you!
You make a valid point; in fact, I think I vomited a little in the back of my throat just thinking about that movie.
So am I really so interesting and/or in need of correction, or are you just really bored today? :p
No matter, I enjoy attention in any form.
I also enjoy your music. Some of it reminds me of Black Lab; considering that they're one of my favorite bands, I've given you my highest compliment of the day. Possibly of the week and the month, too. (I don't give out compliments very often, by the way. )
I hope our paths do cross. Your songs are wonderful. I too, love the songwriting. Sometimes I feel it is painting with water or a prayer flag, meant to be sent to eternity, yet abandoned. I found you through our friend, Aaron English and am glad for it. My best, Heather
It's high time for more songs on my end - thanks for the query. Not that I can ever hope to write as fast you do - hoo-ee! - but it _is_ certainly my turn to 'share'.
Yes, I did indeed post the JCS track for _you,_ my friend. I had a blast singing it.
i would like to hire you to come and play in my living room 4 days a week.. of course i can only afford to pay you in wine and cheese.. ok... so there will be no cheese and i will be drinking most of the wine.. but... there will be genuine applause :D
