Born in Portsmouth England, at a young age Rob moved with his family to Harrogate, where he grew up as a Yorkshireman. During his first decade, both of his parents were plagued by ill health and Rob missed a couple of years of school caring for them. In this time, he watched record-setting amounts of television what Rob missed out on with his conventional educational, he made for by acquiring an encyclopaedic knowledge of old films, old music and popular culture, perhaps laying the foundations for his own career as an artist.
Early musical experiences were as a singer of blues and jazz, starting with performances in local venues in Yorkshire at fifteen. He immediately caught the attention of the local music scene with his extraordinary voice and green (sometimes blue) hair. A succession of bands followed, where Rob was singing other peoples songs, either covers or original material written by other band members. This gave him the impetus to learn to play the guitar: So I wouldnt excluded from musical discussions in rehearsals. As his playing improved, he started writing for the first time.
When his father died in 1995, he felt the need to leave town and moved to London. I could either stay there and keep messing up my life or start again and make the most of what my Dad passed on to me. Robs first musical collaboration in the capital was with Alvin Gibbs of punk veterans UK Subs. Through Alvin, Rob came to the attention of then-fledgling London indie Invisible Hands Music.
The debut album, Waiting For The Tide, was recorded in the summer of 1997 in Hampshire with an all-star cast featuring drummer Darren Mooney (Primal Scream), bassist Jon Noyce (Jethro Tull), keyboard player Reg Webb (Lenny Kravitz) and produced by ace guitarist Greg Bone (Seal, Sting, Prince). Even sound engineer Robin Black was a legend, having engineered albums by Wings, The Who, and Pink Floyds classic Wish You Were Here. The single was an authentic and beautiful cover of the Arlen / Cohler jazz standard Stormy Weather, considered by many aficionados to be the definitive performance of the song.
After a long period of travelling and writing in different parts of the world (including work in Germany with the Munich Symphony Orchestra), Rob returned to London in the UK in the autumn of 2003 and set about recording his album Sightseeing.
Lead single Sweet Mother hit the airwaves in July, staying on the BBC Radio 2 playlist for an astonishing five weeks; and Radio 2 invited Rob to premiere two tracks live to a massive radio audience as part of their Great British Music Debate. In Europe, airplay and live dates have been racked up in Belgium, Holland and Germany.
2005 saw Rob play the prestigious British at MIDEM showcase in Cannes, France; tour Canada twice, the first of which including two showcases at Canada Music Week and the second taking NXNE by storm and touring with legendary Hugh Cornwell from the Stranglers; play tour support to Paul Carrack & Glen Tilbrook, play two sets at Glastonbury festival; and most recently, in July, winning the Baltic Song Contest for England in Malmo, Sweden. At the tail end of 2005 Rob toured Ireland with Christie Hennessey and spent 10 weeks on Ireland Radio 1 playlist.
This year holds another Irish tour and the release of Robs fourth album. Rob Reynolds is an artist of rare artistic honesty, and wedded to a label that insists on complete artistic freedom, Robs self-penned and -produced work stands out a mile. No accountants were involved in the making of his album and it shows.
Hope all is well, thanks again for all your support.
