Rob is a member of Round Trip with drummer/ percussionist Louis Carillo.
Rob often appears as a solo performer. Who knows what you might hear?
Rob is also a member of the ATL-based duo RoboCromp with multi-instrumentalist Jeff Crompton. RoboCromp is sleeping right now, but the Beast may awaken at any time. Beware.
Influences
Fripp, Frisell, Coltrane, Coleman, Ellington, Bach, Gillespie, Garcia, Miles and Monk, Burnin' Vernon Reid, Golden and Geballe, Dylan, Dale, Art Ensemble of Chicago!!!!, King Sunny, Fela, Mosahiko Togashi, Jeff Crompton, Steve Lacy, Satchmo, Max Roach, Jack DeJohnette, Steve Swallow, Lesh, Jimmy Garrison, Haden, Holland, Holy Smokes plenty of others my Lord the names go on forever. And lest we forget...Faulkner, Dreiser, Hemingway, DF Wallace, Hugo, Tolstoy, Dililo, Heller, Vonnegut (and so it goes), Joyce, Homer, Beowulf, Gilgamesh and all the myths of timelessness that tell us where we are now, though we really don't listen all too well.
i) a solo ambient/loopy kind of thing (listen to Old School and A Cloud of Plans at the top of this page for an example of this)
ii)Round Trip, which features New Orleans drummer/percussionist Louis Carillo. Round Trip traverses the jazz/ambient/world/rock/American songbook terrain. Though kept apart by the tyranny of geographical distance, Round Trip is available and ready at a moment's notice.
iii)RoboCromp is a chamber-fusion duo with Jeff Crompton (sax and clarinet). This strange and wonderful little unit works its way through demented originals and prismatic interpretations of lesser-known masterpieces by the likes of Steve Lacy, Monk, Cecil Taylor, Ornette, Benny Goodman, and Albert Ayler. RoboCromp is sleeping right now, but the Beast may awaken at any time. Beware.
And as a few lucky denizens of NOLA Uptown now know, Round Trip and RoboCromp have the ability to merge and create strange new recombinant forms.

hey Rob, I'm really excited about this new gig that your doin'.....I've been researching this guy. Hes done some interesting work. Will there be documentation of this performance.
I'm excited to announce my new CD "One Feather Shy" is available. It is best described as "genre-indifferent instrumental guitar music". I play acoustic, electric, baritone electric, fretless electric, lap steel, baritone lap steel, touch, and synthesizer guitars on this release. Sometimes delicate, sometimes aggressive, the music has been described as textural, visual, thoughtful, and emotional. The songs range from spaghetti western to ambient, from progressive to melodic, from sparse arrangements to densely orchestrated compositions. It's all guitar!
Happy belated Birthday wishes to you Rob.........another year of life that was never guranteed to us.....it could not of happened to a better chap.......
When you can actually deliver, a lot of bullshit becomes forgivable. Posted the shot to commemorate the fact that 39 years ago (on May 29), I saw them open for The Who. The photo is from about that time.
