THE GRATEFUL BAND
Grateful Dead Songs- lots of them and just jammed out long enough... Beatles Songs- lots of rocking and good tunes, especially the ones that make you wanna move or are trippy enough for a good time...
Dylan Songs- played with heart and soul... Allman Brothers Songs- good and solid and played with a tight foundation.... Stones, Marley, others... great songs for great times...
ACOUSTIC BEATLES AND OTHER GRATEFUL TUNES
Robert Schiff Unplugged... almost nonstop performances of every one of my favorate Beatles, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Rolling Stones, songs that I can remember, on acoustic guitar (usually my Martin 6 or Ovation 12)... Sometimes I even add in piano and drum machine.
Rob Schiff and the Grateful Band is my latest music project to take flight. We are a three piece group featuring Carl Darrigo on bass and keyboard, Donnie P. on drums and myself on guitar and vocals. Most of what we play is the music I have loved since I started playing... Beatles, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, etc. We put an emphasis on rocking out and putting out good vibes and high energy. We play at least once a month at the Oasis Cafe in New Paltz and then in other venues in Orange County like the Captain's Table in Monroe.
Among my favorite musical outlets is solo acoustic performances. "Acoustic Beatles and other Grateful Tunes" gives me a chance to sit and play most of my favorite songs in a very intimate environment. I have been performing at the Palaia winery in Highland Mills for the past few months.
As far as what I have done in the past...I grew up in New Paltz, NY in the sixties and 70's. I started playing guitar in 9th grade... In college I switched to the bass guitar... I also began to play piano... I wanted to be a songwriter, so I concentrated on that goal after graduating from SUNY Geneseo... In the late 80's I spent three years working in the lounge band at the Nevele Hotel in the Catskills. I wrote a song called "right from the start", that actually gained some recognition in a songwriting contest. I enjoy recording demos and have made many of my original songs through the years..In 1991 I helped found the Deadbeats, left the band for several years, and returned to the scene in 1999... I left again in 2006 so I could play guitar and pursue my own musical desires...
