I'm a busy independent songwriter, producer, teacher and music worker with an incredible network of talented friends and colleagues in New York, Nashville, Michigan, and California. Originally from Illinios, I grew up listening to rock, folk, and country music, all of which became my early influences. Ever since I've been old enough to work, I've had a guitar or keyboard at hand and have stood behind a microphone grinding out popular songs for my daily bread. I cut my country teeth working at the Michigan Opry alongside greats like Hank Williams Jr. and Merle Haggard, and since coming to New York in 1987 I added Jewish music to my list of loves, particularly Yiddish folk and theater tunes, so much so that I now work often as a Yiddish and Hebrew singer (though I was brought up as a nice Catholic boy--go figure!).
In 2002 I wrote and produced an album called "Busy Being Born," which is available on Avid Records. My most recent release, on Avid and iTunes, is "Halfway Home."
I'm really happy with this last album and am starting to tour to promote it. Constantly writing new songs, I won the Great Lakes Songwriters contest in 2005 for "My Little Love", which I wrote for my daughter Amanda; and was also a winner in their 2008 competition for "Savannah," which I wrote with my good friend and collaborator Hugh Colocott. Recently Faverett Music Group, a Nashville publisher, picked up "Natural," another Taube/Colocott composition, and my song "Out of the Blue," co-created with the extraordinary Judy Klass of Nashville, was just recorded by Tarabeth Echols from the Texas band Coyote Crude.
