Bio
Let me just start by saying that I know it’s pretty stupid for me to be writing this bio since I wasn’t in the band from the beginning. Mike or Rich should be doing this since they were both there from the start, but I was feeling nostalgic the other night so here we go. If memory serves me correctly it was sometime in 1995 that four of my friends (Mike, Rich, Richie and Mark) told me they were starting a band. They decided to call it Robweoza, which came from a long standing inside joke between Mike and Rich. The first recording I remember hearing from them was a 4-song tape they recorded on a reel-to-reel 4 track (or maybe it was a 2 track…I’m not sure). I know I have that tape somewhere, but I can’t seem to find it right now. I might be wrong, but I think the 4 songs were: “I Love Being Lazy”, “Enjoy It While It Lasts”, “50 Eggs” and “You Say Fuck, I Say Shit”. After that they started working on a recording of all their material. That ended up being the 15-song demo tape called “Hepped Up On Goofballs”, the first of many Simpsons references for the band. I think it was in the spring of 1997 when I first saw Robweoza play live. It was at a battle of the bands at our high school. The next time they performed was on October 31, 1997 in a friend’s back yard. It seemed like they played forever that day. The set was long and filled with a bunch of originals along with many Bad Religion covers. After that show the band broke up. Rich, Richie and Mark continued playing together and formed the band High Society. After a few months High Society broke up. Mike, Rich and Mark decided to get Robweoza back together, but they needed a bass player. Mark’s girlfriend Liz joined as bassist. I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think this lineup ever did as much as practice together. After a few months of getting nothing done Mike and Rich decided to replace Mark and Liz. That’s where I came into the picture. They asked me (Frank) to join as bassist and asked our friend Victor to sing. We both agreed. Around this time Richie formed the band Yellow Teeth, who Robweoza would play many shows with over the coming years. In fact, Rich eventually became a member of Yellow Teeth as well. The first Robweoza show with the Mike/Rich/Frank/Victor lineup was on November 21, 1998 (also the first Yellow Teeth show) at the Caves in Staten Island, NY. After that we started playing shows somewhat regularly. We also recorded a 6-song demo tape on a 4 track that we borrowed from Victor’s cousin. I can remember staying up night after night making hundreds of copies of that tape. We’d bring a shoe box full of tapes to every show and hand them out after we’d play. Towards the end of 1999 we decided it was time to record an album. Instead of going into a studio like our friend’s bands were doing we opted to plunk down our money on a digital 8 track. Over the next several months we recorded what would become our debut album, “Get Confident Stupid!”, which we self released on our own Mung Records. In December 1999 we played a show at CBGBs opening for Joey Ramone under the alias Endless Vacation doing all Ramones covers. Around the time of the CD’s release in June 2000 we attempted to go on tour for 10 days. This was before the internet was the be-all-end-all means of band communication, so I spent several weeks calling people whose numbers I got from Book Your Own Fucking Life. Those phone calls resulted in 3 shows getting booked, one of which fell through the day of. After we returned home from our “tour” we continued playing around the NY/NJ area. We played our last show on September 29, 2001. After that the band broke up. Victor and I continued playing together with Richie in the band Goin’ Places, which we had formed a year earlier. Rich and Mark soon started playing again and formed the band Someone Else, which they continue to play with to this day. In the years since Robweoza’s last show Richie, Victor, Rich, Mark and I have continued to play together in various bands with all different lineup combinations. Some of these bands have played out and recorded, while others remain simple “basement projects”. The Robweoza CD is still available through www.interpunk.com for the lowest price they will allow me to list it ($2.75). If you’d like to hear it but don’t want to order through them you can contact me directly and I’ll mail you one of the remaining copies for free (you just have to cover the shipping expenses). I most likely won’t be checking this page to often, so your best chance of getting in contact with me is by emailing me at GoinPlacesSuck@aol.com Frank -
