Macky Feary, Van Morrison, George Benson, Quincy Jones, H&O, Lenny Kravitz, Bill Withers, John Mayer, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, major 7th chords, Spencer Ahuna, Mati Keating, Josh Conneran, The Krush, Gomega, Moemoea, Jack Johnson, Tuck and Patti, School House Rock, my family, eastern philosophers, EW&F, Star Wars, Michael Jackson, Paulo Coelho, Nietzche, SRV, growing up on the North Shore...blah blah blah
Sounds Like
~I love old school soul and R&B like Bill Withers, Al Green, Marvin, Stevie (man oh man, Stevie...), the stuff that makes you reminisce about being a kid, or being in love.
~I also love 70's soft rock like Ambrosia, Hall & Oats, Christopher Cross, et al; including Hawaii's version of these guys like Kalapana, Country
Comfort, C&K, etc.
~The funk - I can't get enough of it. I mean, I'm a singer-songwriter and I LOVE FUNK... Lakeside, Tower of Power, EW&F. And there's a soft place in my heart for Michael Jackson--growing up I used to try and do his dance moves and sing his songs (not always quite the way he did it, though). He took funk, mashed it with R&B, and gave it a pop twist...ingenious.
~I really dig the moderns, people I consider my contemporaries, like John Mayer, Jack Johnson, John Legend. Props for perpetuating GREAT music.
~Finally, the two cornerstones of American music: Blues and Jazz.
This video was made by a Japanese film crew late 2006, and placed on a DVD/Magazine called "Aloha 'Ea" along with several other noted musicians and public figures. Check out the beautiful scenes of Waipi'o Valley on the Big Island (and some random shots of people wading in the river LOL!)
I've spent years evolving as a musician, a father, a human being. What I do musically is a direct expression of how I live my life...and I've tried to live it freely, drawing from people's experiences and advice but NOT confined to it.
My style? I'm a singer-songwriter, acoustic guitar and voice...recently been into the jazz guitar/vocalist thing (along the lines of Tuck & Patti). A very laid back groove is what I'm all about, and I see music through the lens of soul/R&B, smooth jazz, soft rock, and blues.
Hi Rob...I'm so sorry I missed your message...I have been very ill since July and have been off Facebook and Myspace all that time....I just logged back in yesterday and saw your message. I would loved to have seen you...I should have given you my phone number as it's the best way to get a hold of me for events like this. I hope you come back to California, or if you are still here, you'll be here for a while more! I hope you had a great time at both events....I am REALLY sorry I didn't know about it sooner, me and my mom would have come down there. Keep in touch and let me know if you're going to play again!
Aloha Rob,
Auntie Alma called the other night to let us know where you will be and your mom set us the flyer. We will try our best to come out. We live inland in Riverside. We would love to meet you.
Vicky

Just dropping by to let you know that I have a new album out entitled 'Anitya.' It is currently available for download from Amazon.com. It is album consisting of ten acoustic folk rock songs with traditional east asian influences. It centers around the idea of anitya or impermanence in Buddhism, and the interaction between failure and ideals. So take some time and enjoy the new songs! peace,
