Rochester Critical Mass's Blurbs |
About me:
We meet at 6pm on the last Friday of every month at the Liberty Pole downtown, rain or shine!
Over the past century, gasoline-powered automobiles have become the dominant form of transportation in America and many other places around the world. But that trend cannot be sustained forever. Bicycles are a safe, inexpensive, healthy, zero-emissions alternative; it is up to those who believe that bicycles are part of the solution to promote their use through constructive, grass-roots activism. Our actions and community involvement can help transform public spaces into quieter, safer environments that everyone can enjoy.
Rochester Critical Mass is a monthly slow-moving bicycle ride through the streets of Rochester, New York; and it's so much more. It's a statement that bike riders have a right to the road as much as all other forms of traffic. It's a way for people with bicycles to get together and ride in a fun, social, safe environment. And it demonstrates the oft-ignored advantages that bicycling has over automobiles - ease of use, environmental sustainability, and versatility.
Critical Mass is leaderless; it's open to everyone with a bike, inline skates, skateboard, scooter or other human-powered transport; Rochester Critical Mass meets on the last Friday of every month, 6pm at the Liberty Pole downtown.
Imagine the ideal Rochester. Does it involve exhaust fumes, traffic congestion, and fatal accidents? Should automobiles and parking garages be the focus of urban planning, or should they only be used on an as-needed basis? Should bicyclists be told to "get off the road," or should they be celebrated and respected? If you have a bike and want to use it to change the world, come ride with us.
