Boston, MA (Urban Dwellers, Boston) April 23, 2008 – On Saturday, May 31, 2008, musicians, regional businesses and the community will gather together at the Sportsmen’s Tennis Club located at 950 Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, Massachusetts 02124 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to barbecue and enjoy a talent show, tennis match and a job fair in a combined effort to raise funds to benefit the club.
Founded over forty years ago, Sportsmen's Tennis Club is a 501(c3), non-profit corporation organized in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a mission of providing low-cost tennis to urban youth.
“Massachusetts is not without its share of community events, but it’s rare the public know exactly where any funds raised are going”, says Lainee Starosta, co-coordinator and official spokesperson for Urban Dwellers Boston. She adds, “We’ve selected a single credible organization at the core of urban Boston to deliver our support to. The community can observe firsthand the difference being made. This is grass roots.”
The event is being launched with the job fair which will open at 10 a.m. The goal of the job fair is to network regional businesses with local youth looking for something positive to do this summer. The job fair will be followed by a tennis match organized by the club and then a barbecue with hamburgers, hot dogs and other food prepared by Chef Jay.
The talent show is a competitive showcase in two categories: rap and vocals. Local youth will compete to take home cash and prizes. The talent show will be hosted by DraMatik of W.O.L.V.E.S. Entertainment and be judged by female rapper BRIX (MTV.de hottest download), Lawrence rapper Krumbsnatcha (The SOURCE Quotable), Chris Farone (Boston Herald, the Boston Phoenix and The SOURCE) and other guest judges. It will also feature soon to be announced special performances.
All ages are welcome to the event and donations are being accepted at the door, as well as, via representatives on sight. The event will be closed with a short benefit concert by Urban Dwellers guest performers. For additional event information on Rock Tha Block, contact rockthablock@gmail.com.
