Rock 'N' Rummage isn't your moms typical yard sale!!!
So you're sitting in Metro Detroit bar, and people start setting up tables with stacks of vinyl records, T-shirts, and nostalgic items with words attached to them like "The Goonies", "Garbage Pail Kids", and "The A-Team". No, this isn't a retrospective decade show on VH1. This is Rock 'N' Rummage you have just witnessed.
Rock 'N' Rummage brings the yard, garage, market, and fair into a bar/coffee house setting. The event is centered around music, drinking, and merchandise.
Rock 'N' Rummage was started after years of accumulation from a self confessed pack rat growing up in the 80's pop culture scene.
Filmmaker Casey Schwochow is known as the curator of the kitsch debris of American Pop Culture in the Detroit Area. He started the event in the Fall of 2005. In the early 90's Casey would shop at garage sales and thrift stores keeping a eye out for vintage T-shirts, combat boots, and other one of a kind treasures.
With the dawn of a new decade, Casey just didn't have any room left to keep storing all his cool goods and he needed an outlet to present the items to people who would be into it. Thus, Rock 'N' Rummage was born. Casey organizes and attends every event with a passion.
Rock 'N' Rummage is a true alternative garage sale and on any given night you are liable to see vendors selling everything from music memorabilia, books, DVDs, CDs, artwork, clothing, vintage goods, jewelry, a variety of kitsch items to handmade alternative crafts. It's a scavengers dream come true !
Of course, you can always shop online through Ebay, but if you still want that personal shopping experience with half the hassle and twice the fun, a night of Rock 'N' Rummage might be your ticket. We meet your desire for alternative shopping means.
And the best part..you're invited to not only take part in buying, but also SELLING your own goods.
We encourage handmade artists, crafters, and business owners to come out. We support creative individuals and would love to host you selling your goods at our event. How about that box you found in your attic filled with old board games and magazines?
You don't have to fit into a scene or click to sell or shop at Rock 'N' Rummage. We are open to all genres and encourage individuality. We are suited and supported by punks, goths, rockers, collectors, hippies, jocks, models, and YOU!
In the summer of 2008 Camel Smokes unleashed the “9s Style Guide” and explored fashion districts and fashion-related events in major cities across the country. Rock and Rummage was chosen to represent the Style in Detroit.
Shop for interesting goods, sell your own, listen to music, hang out, socialize, and have a beer.
