Everyone living with Cystic Fibrosis that holds thier heads up high and is willing to fight!
About me: Founded and led by Emily Schaller, the Rock CF Foundation is dedicated to increasing the quality of life for people with Cystic Fibrosis. With the help of a core group of volunteers, the Foundation utilizes the arts, entertainment, fashion and fitness to support research initiatives and heighten public awareness in the fight against cystic fibrosis.
For those of you who don't know, I (EMILY) am 26 years old and I have Cystic Fibrosis(CF). I was diagnosed with CF at 18 months old and am still rockin today! I started The Rock CF Foundation to raise awareness and funds for CF because I feel that not enough people know what Cystic Fibrosis is and how much is being done each year to treat us afflicted with the disease. I really believe that using the arts and entertainment is a great way to reach and teach people about CF. Each year I spend about 8 weeks or more in the hospital undergoing treatments and each day I spend hours on home treatments along with swallowing 30 or more pills. This is all very normal for the 30,000 people living in the U.S. with CF. Life expectancy right now is about 37 years old and this increases each year because of funding from people like you.
***On August 2nd Emily and three of her friends are going to be riding their bikes from Detroit to Chicago via Michigan Avenue. Emily and her friend Kevin rode the 282 miles last summer and are at it again this summer. Joining them are two of Emily's good friends Kevin and Marylou.
YOU can join in on a portion of the ride too! On August 2nd a 20 mile group ride will leave Detroit and head to Dearborn and back. Please visit WWW.CITYTOCITYRIDE.ORG for more info on how to register or how to donate to help us Rock Cystic Fibrosis!!***
Who I'd like to meet: Patients with CF, families of patients and friends of those living with cystic fibrosis. Also we are looking to meet anyone who wants to help with benefits and spreading the word about this genetic killer of children and young adults.
