When she was 11 years old Tat Jane heard Neil Young's 'The Needle and the Damage Done' and knew immediately that she wanted to sing. She didn't just want to sing, but she also wanted to write her own songs. She wanted her songs to TELL STORIES, possibly inspire people, move them and perhaps touch their hearts. She could only hope that one day one of her songs might move someone as much as she was moved when she heard that Neil Young song. That was the driving force that made her seek out a place where such a thing might happen. She journeyed to Amsterdam, then Canada, and then finally came to New Yor City.
It was early nintees when Tat Jane came to NYC. From the moment she stepped onto the NY pavement she was tremendously inspired and moved by the city's energy.
This inspiration led to her creating new lyrics and songs; such as 'An Apple Bank', 'Business Baby', When You Step On Mad' and 'Help Wanted'.
