RocketGoldStar (RGS) are based in Cardiff, Wales, UK. They formed their current lineup in February 1999.
The band's history stretches back to 1993 when Frank and Gaz formed the dance influenced Funclebod together with Andy Flack, Tim Buckland, Toby Millie and Guilian Palladino (brother of The Who's Pino)
This lineup (minus drummer Andy and keys player Toby) moved into a remote farmhouse on top of a Welsh mountain in 1995 and proceeded to write and rehearse music for an album deal that they had landed. They started initially in their funky dance style but as time wore on the bands music changed and their quirky nature came forth into the music. It was here that the band metamorphised first into Drastic for a short while and then RocketGoldStar (named after one of the band's anthemic songs)
This lineup bit the dust spectacularly at the tail end of 1998 but with the addition of Sion Orgon (ex Pod) Gaz and Frank managed to revive the group and continue.
The year 2000 was the best yet for the group with the most activity and success. They signed a new deal in march with FFvinyl and released their first proper commercial release in June with the very well recieved semi concept EP "Soul of a Nu Machine".
The band achieved a certain amount of national exposure with a couple of typically quirky events in May 2000 prior to the EP launch. These included the ambitious 12 hour single (a song played live with no breaks for 12 hours!) released as a continuous download (hampered somewhat by the dial up modems of the day!) and the groundbreaking "Silent Gig". This was a concert performed using digital equipment and no amplifiers with the whole audience wearing headphones! Assisted by Roland UK this event was claimed to be the first of its type in the world.
Their FFVinyl album debut followed in september 2001 called "Soft Eject" Three singles were extracted from the album and were released in this period: "When in the Darkest Night", "What are you Singing About?" and "Steamboat to Nowhere". Three radio one sessions, one peel session (with MC Mabon), five Radio Wales sessions and one live XFM session were completed around this time. The follow up to Soft Eject was recorded by /Coil/Spititualized member and Julian Cope producer Thighpaulsandra but unfortunately has not been released as of yet.
The group only venture out to gig occaisonally these days but with a new album imminent and a new record deal in place, 2009 could well see a return to more regular action.
