The Beatles (Beatles freaks!), Louden Wainwright, STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Dada, Greatful Dead, Phish, Big Wreck, Tragically Hip, Allman Brothers, Rush, so many others...
The Rock Formation story begins with two brothers (Mike and Dan) looking to quench their thirst by drinking beer while playing great rock music. The Meiser brothers were the core members of the Dayton Slipnot band of the late nineties.
Slipnot was one of the original Jam Rock bands to play in Dayton along side Gulliver's Traveling Medicine Show, The Mullins Band, and Josh Johnson. Slipnot was the first band in Dayton to stream a live music performance with sound and video over the internet. This occurred during one of their many performances at The Walnut Hills (Currently Jimmy's Cornerstone Bar).
Slipnot eventually went through a name change (after those guys in the masks showed up), and became Baraka's Groove. They kept that name until the band members separated in 2001. During this time Mike continued writing songs and playing occasional acoustic sets. Dan took his studies to New Mexico where he pursued astrophysics.
The brothers would eventually reunite to form a new band "South Paw". Their love of music took their search for some musical companions to the only logical place when looking for normal, reliable musicians... the internet. By some random chance they found John who was looking for a similar escape to his true passion. After playing with several different musicians, they found Dominic to sing, Gregg to play the skins, and Greg to man sound and all other things requiring brain power.
After several gigs, Dom left to pursue studies abroad. The South Paw name also left and John stepped up to the mic full time. This new iteration would eventually become Rock Formation.
John on Lead Guitar and vocals, Mike on Rhythm / Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals, Dan on Bass, Gregg (with two g's) on Drums and Backing Vocals is the real musician of the bunch who knows every snare hit Ringo ever made! Greg (with one g) is the enabler. Without him, all our gear would be broken, our website would be lame, and John would be screaming into a orange road cone for amplification.
Two years after forming, Rock Formation is living up to the name. Bringing solid rock covers and originals to the stage every time is their game. Their live show is top notch and John usually ends up hurting himself and the crowd leaves sweaty and full of drinks. Check them out (or any local band for that matter) at a fine music venue near you.
