REVIEW BY ANDREW SMITH FOR UK ROCK MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2009 ISSUE: Rockin’ Bonnie and her band, the wonderfully named ‘The Rot Gut Shots’ have finally launched their debut release on El Toro records. Formed in 2006 and consisting of consummate musicians from across the spectrum, this Italian based combo is fronted by Sabrina, aka Rockin’ Bonnie. Bonnie is another in a line of first class vocalists in the same ilk as Miss Mary Ann, Sue Moreno and Ruby Ann. A cocktail is an ideal word to describe the musical styles of this compilation, taking influence from Hillbilly, Western Swing, Boogie Woogie and Rockabilly. And it’s not all familiar songs, with several Massimo Zampini penned tunes, cleverly inserted between classic covers. The CD grabs the attention with a fantastic take on ‘Bell Bottom Boogie’, and bounces along with up tempo foot tappers such as ‘I’m Hurtin’ Again’ and ‘Kitty Kay Corner’, ‘Juke Box Blues’ and ‘I Wanna Make Love’ is a cover that has a great jive beat. Charline Arthur’s ’53 cracker ‘I Heard About You’ is given the European edge with and excellent vocal and accompaniment. The pace does slow occasionally, and halfway through the CD is a super Zampini composition ‘I Love Booze’, which I defy anyone to not have a smile while listening, and the same writer produces a great bopper with ‘I Start Messin’ Around’. A personal favourite of mine is the version of Bob Luman’s ‘Bring Along Your Lovin’, however this track is a first among equals. It would be difficult to accurately categorise this CD, and place it in any specific genre, and largely pointless to do so. What you do have here is a first class, well packaged and equally well conceived debut CD that has been worth the waiting with a variation of tracks with maybe the slightest lean toward the western side. A Jubilee is synonymous with a celebration, and this is indeed a celebration in it’s fifteen tracks. It’s one you should put in the ‘play often and enjoy always’ category.

.. ....Jerry Chatabox says...... .."From the first blurry pictures that I saw on the internet, of the fabulous Rockin Bonnie and the Rot Gut Shots, I knew that this was something special. Plenty of bands can play really well these days, so that is not enough for a booking for The Rockabilly Rave.. and plenty of bands have a lot of enthusiasm and energy, so that again is not enough for a booking. .. ..What Rockin Bonnie has, apart from the obvious talent and enthusiasm, is a feeling from deep in her heart about 1950's music. .. She sings in a style that is exactly right for the music.. there is nothing modern about her voice or her style.. she could be up there with Charlene Arthur, some 50 years ago. .. ..I don't believe that this is something that can be taught. You either have it or you don't. Rockin Bonnie and her incredibly talented band, have it. No question about it... ..They received such a reception at The Rockabilly Rave, that they are already booked for next year, 19th - 23rd June 2008. If you missed her this year, do not make the same mistake again!! ".. ..Jerry Chatabox July 2007.. ..

In 2005 four guys with a lot of musical experience behind them decided to join forces and form a band in order to show their love for musical genres such as boogie-woogie, swing and roots music in general. The name of the band was “The Rot Gut Shots”. In the beginning it comprised Max Zampini (guitar and vocals), Nuno Alexandre (double-bass), Jerry Gerosa (piano) and Frank Dee (drums). After some months Manule replaced Frank on the drums. They had several live experiences and some Italian (and not) tours with foreign artists in the rock’n’roll and blues scene such as Eddie Clendening, Ruby Ann, Junior Marvel, Ella and Sue Moreno. On the occasion of the first Get Rhythm Festival 2006 (Milan), for the first time they backed a young female singer with a strong passion for country and rockabilly music. Since their first performance the dual name of Rockin’Bonnie & The Rot Gut Shots was pretty successful and the 2007 international edition of Rockabilly Rave gave them a stepping stone to several live shows all over Europe at important festivals and clubs. To be mentioned: High Rockabilly 2007 (Spain), Let’s Get Wild 2007 (Germany), Rockin’Around Turnhout 2008 (Belgium), Screamin’ Festival 2008 (Spain), Rockabilly Rave 2008 (England), Festival de Country-Rock de Prat-bon-Repaux 2008 (France), Hot Rod Decadence 2008 (Germany), Rockabilly Uhrschweiz 2008 (Switzerland), Rattlesnake Saloon 2009 (Germany), Kustom Weekend 2009 (Italy), Tear It Up 2009 (Croatia), D-Day 2008 (Holland), Great Shakin’ Fever 2009 (Portugal), Summer Jamboree 2009 (Italy), Rocket Room 2009 (Sweden). In September 2009, they released their first album for the Spanish label “El Toro Records” entitled “Cocktail Jubilee” containing some covers and self-penned songs which has been well received with enthusiasm in national and international reviews. Today they are ready to perform at other foreign and Italian shows and already have new ideas for a new album production. info: rockinbonnie@tiscali.it .... ..Rockabilly Rave - Hey Little Dreamboat...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ......Add to My Profile.. .... .. .... ..Rockabilly Rave - move a little closer...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ......Add to My Profile.. .... .. .... ..Transilvania Live - Fever...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ......Add to My Profile.. .... .. .... ..Get Rhythm 1...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ......Add to My Profile.. ..
