This entire project started out as a twist of fate, with a lost 18 year old girl, who loves rock music and didn't know what to do for her senior project. Well, not knowing where to start, one night she threw an idea out to Brent Smith of Shinedown. To her complete surprise, he ran with it and was all about supporting her in this effort, thus Rockin For A Reason was born in the fall of 2006. She began working on this event in September of 2006. After 2 months of being turned down by every company, every radio station, every person she talked to, after all this rejection, she set out on her own. For the next 6 months, she taught herself as much about the music industry as she could, and in the end, with support from friends and family, she brought together the first installment of what is now becoming her life's career. On April 28, 2007, 5 bands took the stage at Club Fathom in Chattanooga, TN, for an audience of 527 people. These 5 bands will hold this little girl's respect for the rest of her life. DOWNSTREAM, Seven Under Suicide, Arythmia, BRASH, and her inspiration for the event, Atlantic recording artist Shinedown. Those are the original 5, and were open to taking part of something bigger than themselves for a cause that couldn't hit closer to home for the founder. At the end of that night, once all dues were paid, Rockin For a Reason walked away with $2,900 dollars to donate to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Here three weeks later, the story picks up with this: Rockin For A Reason is soon to be an official non-profit corporation. But we're a little different than most non-profits out there, in that we don't have one specific thing we are raising money for. You ask yourself, "why would I want to support something that doesn't know what it is supporting?". That's easy. This whole corporation is based around a few things:
A)A lot of people in my world have a view that rock music can't do anything but bring a person down. This corporation is all about supporting amazing causes while showing people how much rock can really accomplish. Here at RFAR, we want to show people how to truly rock.
B)If something so raw and emotional as music, can bring so many people together for the same reason, why not make that reason supporting amazing causes and foundations.
C)We are different from most non-profits in that we aren't supporting one heart research, or one type of cancer. We are a loving bunch, so we decided to spread the love. With each concert(or tour as we will hopefully have in the coming years), the money earned will go to a different foundation.
I hope this has explained some of what we here at RFAR are all about. We have nothing but love for each and every person who crosses our path, in any way, somewhere in life. As usual, when life gets you down, and there's a lot of negative, look at the future and tell yourself this: "I am focussed on what I am after, the key to the next open chapter, I found a way, to steal the sun from the sky, long live that day, that I decided to fly from the inside".
It's in you, you can change the world with one look if you want, so go out there and do it, be a part of something bigger than you and me.

I am now writing for a unbiased music magazine that has print distribution throughout the southeast. This is something that is bringing some of my strongest passions together.
