Rich's Interests
|
| General | Let's see...rock and roll, riding trails on dirtbikes, Monty Python, and airplanes. | | Music | Kiss is the reason I'm a guitar player. I knew right away that I'd found my calling! Later, I got into other music of course, but Kiss from '74-'78 will always have a special place in my heart.
AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, and Metallica...bands that always get cranked up in my car! | | Movies | This is Spinal Tap is a fave, as well as anything by Monty Python. I like stuff that's music oriented, provided the music's cool and the actors really care about making it authentic. Other than that, it's gotta be funny. Very seldom will I see a drama, horror, or perish the thought, a romantic comedy. I'd rather see The Waterboy than Like Water For Chocolate any day of the week. | | Television | The Daily Show, South Park, Survivor, and The Simpsons pretty much cover it for me. I will watch American Idol and Rockstar, but I end up disappointed in them more often than not.
I'll watch the news, but I'm not a guy that follows along with the weekly dramatics the talking heads get so worked up over. I couldn't be less interested in celebrity gossip, and the idiotic fashions that go hand in hand with it. | | Books | When I was a kid I bought Clive Cussler's Vixen 03 at a garage sale for a quarter. I only bought it because it had an airplane on the cover, but it turned out to be a really good thing. I became a fan of Cussler's Dirk Pitt and I've read almost every Dirk Pitt novel Cussler's written. When I was a road dog our soundman lent me Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. That started a book collection to match Cussler's. I've now read almost every Clancy novel. I stay away from the "co-writing" stuff that Cussler and Clancy both do...where they come up with a concept, but another author writes the story. Those just don't cut the mustard in my opinion. | | Heroes | I think it can be bad to have heroes, because they can never live up to what you build them up to be. I think it's better to try and BE a hero to others, and that means leading by example. You teach your kids not to smoke by not smoking. You teach your kids not to use drugs by not using drugs. You teach your kids not to grow up to be abusers by not being an abuser. You teach your kids not to cheat, by not being a cheater. Now if only they'd stop trying to catch me looking at porn on my computer!

About me:
When I'm not working I'm usually home taking care of my kids. It's not very "rock and roll" I know, but family has to come first. I play guitar on the weekends with my rock band Doctor Bombay.
I've been playing guitar since Christmas of 1982, and I can not imagine my life without music in it. I've managed to be a positive influence on a lot of young people, especially my two brothers, (who aren't so young anymore) and they're both great musicians, too. I have two nephews that both play guitar, and along the way I've been able to help the sons of several friends get going in music, as well.
It's my belief that the gift of music lasts a lifetime, and it's similar to the idea of "give a man a fish, he eats for today, teach a man to fish, he eats for life" in that I enjoy playing for people, but they enjoy it more when they're able to play, too.
