I grew up hearing the music of my parents n' it was 1950's Rock n' Roll.... Bill Hailey and the Comets, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino and Elvis Presley. At 13 I started collecting my own 50's records. Artist that folks had never heard of, more n' more obscure and smaller label artists from Hillbilly, Blues, Cajun, R n'B, Country and to of course Rockabilly! The more I heard, the more I was drawn like a moth to a flame...to all that was Americana!
At 17 years old I went from England to the USA and traveled all over on Greyhound buses, then worked on a horse farm outside Chicago for about 6 months. But it was while in New York hanging around with BUZZ and the FLYERS, that Smutty Smiff from The ROCKACTS gave me my 1st bass lesson, n' man was I was hooked..!
After my return to the UK in 1981 I worked 2 jobs night n’ day to save for my first upright bass! A few months later I was playing with Boz Boorer in the MEGATONS 1981/83. We played mostly obscure covers with a hand full of our own songs. A year or so later I bought my 1st guitar n' that was the start of my eternal passion for writing songs! From 1983/87 I also played with The VIBES, The STRINGRAYS, SUNNY DEMESTOS, The BLUBBERY HELLBELLIES, and The BUGS. With all these bands I performed live in person n' on TV n' Radio shows, made recordings n' had a lot of fun all over Europe. But I was yearning to live the American dream…or at least tryn' find out if it was real?
I immigrated to San Francisco California in 1987. I didn't go lookin' for a musical career, it pursued me n' I found myself playing in The RAMBLERS! Johnny is an excellent singer songwriter who I was lucky enough to unwittingly learn from. We quickly became good friends n' through his encouragement we started performing my songs that I had been writing in secret for years. We parted ways in ‘96 because he had kid n' I had a yearning for the road. I found myself without a singer and undertook the position until one came along that could tour!
I've toured with some of the hottest musicians as well as some who we're just starting out, over the last 10years…. On guitar Tom Sanderson (Long Goners), Hank Maniger (Hacienda Bros), Tom Haymen (Cort n' Spark) and Spike Arrow (the Rapids). On drums Fernando Ermocito (Screamin' Solo Flights), Bobby Mumbles, Geoff Jerrow, Leor Beary (Visitation Valley Boys), and of course the back bone of this band for the last 15yrs is Biff O'Hara (Johnny Legend, Ribsey)...For the best part we've all become good friends, helping each other through tuff times as well as being there for the good stuff.
My talents and musical experience have been showcased both live and in the recording studio. I have had the pleasure and opportunity to play with and back such legends and greats as ...JOE CLAY "16 Chicks”, JOHNNY POWERS "Long Blonde Hair", NARVEL FELTS "Did You Tell Me”.” Kiss-A-Me Baby", TOMMY SANDS "The Worrying Kind”, DALE HAWKINS "Suzie-Q", ROCKY BURNETTE, PAUL BURLISON, BOZ BOORER (The Polecats/Morrissey), DARREL HIGHAM (The Enforcers), SONNY GOERGE (The Planet Rockers) and of course my personal favorites HAYDEN THOMPSON "Fairlane Rock, Love My Baby, Blues Blues Blues, Don't You Worry Baby, One Broken Heart, Mama Mama Mama, Rockabilly Gal, You Are My Sunshine". Well here I am 3 CD's and some 75 songs or so later still looking for a real singer..!
